Title: AIAA Overview
1AIAA Overview
- John Blanton, Director
- AIAA Region 3
- July 12,2007
2AIAA is
- the American Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics - but AIAA is, in fact, an INTERNATIONAL
organization, with 18 per cent (and growing) of
its professional members residing outside of the
US! - The Worlds Forum for Aerospace Leadership
3AIAA is
- a scientific and engineering membership society
(AIAA Constitution Article 1.1) with both
individual and corporate members - led by member volunteers at the Institute,
Regional, and Section levels - supported by a paid staff of professional
employees - a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, tax-exempt
organization
4AIAA is NOT
- an Industry Trade Association
- a Political Action Committee (PAC)
- Aerospace Industries Association (AIA)
- often confusing!
- a Labor Union
5AIAA Membership
June 2007 data
6One Remarkable Fact Says It All
Since 1963, members from a single professional
society have achieved virtually every milestone
in modern American flight. That society is the
American Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics. (is this still true?)
7AIAA Vision and Mission
The shaping, dynamic force in aerospace THE
forum for innovation, excellence and global
leadership. AIAA advances the state of aerospace
science, engineering, and technological
leadership. Core missions include communications
and advocacy, products and programs, membership
value, and market and workforce development.
