4Graduation Requirements
Regents Diplomas
- To earn a Regents Diploma, students must pass 5
Regents exams with a score of 65 or better - English
- Global History Geography
- US History Government
- Math A
- Science (Living Environment, Chemistry, Earth
Science, or Physics) - To earn a Regents Diploma with Advanced
Designation, students must pass 8 Regents exams
with a score of 65 or better - All of the above plus
- Math B
- L.O.T.E.
- A second science exam, 1 in Living Environment
and 1 from Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics
5Local Diploma
- A Local Diploma is available only if the local
school district has adopted that option. To earn
a local diploma, students must pass 5 Regents
exams with a score of 55 or better - English
- Global History Geography
- US History Government
- Math A
- Science (Living Environment, Chemistry, Earth
Science, or Physics) - Phase out of Local Diploma takes place over four
years as follows (general education) - Students entering 9th grade in 2005
- Must earn at least two scores at 65 or better on
the five required Regents exams and all scores at
55 or above. - Students entering 9th grade in 2006
- Must earn at least three scores at 65 or better
on the five required Regents exams and all scores
at 55 or above. - Students entering 9th grade in 2007
- Must earn at least four scores at 65 or better on
the five required Regents exams and all scores at
55 or above. - Students entering 9th grade in 2008 Students
entering 9th grade in 2006 - Must pass all five required Regents exams at a
score of 65 or above. (current 6th grade)

21Highlights of Regents Results
- All 2005 results at 91 and better with a passing
score of 55 - 95 and higher in seven areas
- Of the eleven assessments, students achieved a
90 passing rate or higher in eight areas with a
score of 65 in 2005 - The number of students achieving mastery has
increased in eight of the eleven areas between
2004 and 2005 - General upward movement in achievement as we
better align curriculum - Regents diploma rates have increased
- Increase in number of students going to college
- Students continue to gain acceptance into
top-flight schools

28Highlights of AP Results
- Results in five exams exceeded last years
results - AP Gov. and Politics scores have moved from high
2s in 2001 and 2002 to almost 3.5 over the last
three years (more heterogeneous class than most
APs) - The average score in 2005 for AP biology students
was 4.0 on a five point scale (3.7 average score
over 5 years) - AP Computers average score of 4.1 and 94 of
students earned 3 and above over last two
administrations - Results in six of nine exams exceed results of
five year average
