Stage 1

• Common frogs lay eggs which appear as black dots.
• The jelly swells in the water when the eggs are
  laid.
• Most of the eggs gather in one large mass.

Stage 2

• The eggs develop into tadpoles with a tail and
  gills.

Stage 3

• Next the tadpoles develop hind legs.
• Then they develop fore legs.
• Eventually, the gills and tail disappear leaving
  a small adult.

Stage 4

• Finally the tadpole is a frog.

• The process of a tadpole becoming a frog takes 12
  to 14 weeks.
• It will take three more years before the frog
  reaches maturity.

Want to Raise Your Own Tadpoles?

• If you take tadpoles from a pond only take a few
  because they are more likely to survive if it is
  less crowded.
• Dont use tap water and you have to put the water
  in the sunlight for 5 to 7 days before putting
  the tadpoles in the water.
• Put some pond weed in the water to provide oxygen
  and food.

Feeding Tadpoles

• Tadpoles like lettuce.
• Boil the lettuce for 10 to 15 minutes then drain
  and chop.
• Give the tadpoles a pinch of the lettuce every
  few days.
• You can freeze the lettuce if you have some left
  over.
• You can get tadpole and frog food at the pet
  store. If you dont feed them enough they will
  start eating each other.

Your New Pet Frog

• Once the tadpoles turn into frogs, give them a
  rock to climb on otherwise they will drown.
• When they are ready to be out of the water, take
  them back to the wild where you found the
  tadpoles.
