International Code Council
  • The International Code Council, a membership
association dedicated to building safety and fire
prevention, develops the codes used to construct
    residential and commercial buildings, including
homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and
states that adopt codes choose the International
Codes developed by the International Code
    Council.
  • Vision - Protecting the health, safety, and
welfare of people by creating better buildings
    and safer communities.
  • Mission - Providing the highest quality codes,
standards, products, and services for all
concerned with the safety and performance of the
    built environment

2003 IBC meets FHA accessibility requirements
  • Architects, developers, builders and others who
use the IBC to design and construct multi-family
housing can be confident they are in compliance
with the Federal Fair Housing Act (FHA).
  • The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) has found that the IBC
constitutes safe harbor for compliance with the
    FHA's accessibility requirements.

Code Development Process
  • Advancing public safety in the built environment
is the central purpose of the ICC code
    development process. Everything produced is
derived from and shaped by that core mission.
  • The International Code Council is committed to
    meeting or exceeding the accessibility
requirements of the Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA) and the Fair Housing Act (FHA).
    Accessibility requirements are incorporated into
the International Codes as the codes are updated,
    through the International Code development
    process.
  • If you are interested in code changes submitted
in previous code development cycles or the
current cycle, be sure to go to our website
