4 Cs of Diamond
  • Following characteristics must need to be
considered while buying diamonds. The 4Cs given
below determine the quality of diamond
  • Colour
  • Cut
  • Carat
  • Clarity

Colour
  • The colour of diamond varies from colourless to
many shades of yellow. Slight tints of yellow
make a diamond less rare, but some people prefer
the personality it gives a stone of good Cut and
    Clarity.
  • The diamond colour scale was devised by the
Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in the mid
1950's to regulate and define the colour of

Cut
  • The cut of a diamond should not be confused with
its shape. Shapes are cut from the original rough
diamond, a well-cut diamond is always better able
    to reflect light.
  • The cut of a diamond refers to its proportions.
It is one of the most important factors to be
considered while selecting your diamond. It is an
aspect which is directly influenced by man.

Carat
  • The word carat has evolved from the ancient
practice in India of measuring diamond weights
with the one thing in nature that is both small
and the most consistent in weight - the carob
seed. Thus the name "carat" evolved in the
English language, which is still equivalent to
approximately the weight of one carob bean.
  • A diamonds weight is represented in carats. One
Diamond carat is divided into 100 points. A 0.25
carat diamond is the same as a 25 points or 1/4
carat diamond. One carat is the equivalent of 0.2
grams. Carat is often confused with size even
though it is actually a measure of weight.
