Title: Safety Consideration In Pallet Racking

1
  • Safety Consideration In Pallet Racking
  •

2
  • Pallet racking is of course, a kind of material
    handling storage system. It is
  • very common nowadays. It is also virtually
    everywhere. Be it in retail
  • systems, or manufacturing plants, or even in
    those impressionable high end
  • upscale warehouses. Definitions aside, the next
    most important thing to be
  • considered as far as pallet racking is concerned
    are the safety factors.
  • Although this is purely a material storage
system, as in most cases people
  • are definitely involved. And after having the
    system all figured out and
  • planned out down to a T, the next most important
    thing to be taken to
  • attention of course is safety.
  •
  • Close and meticulous attention should always be
    focused on the loose
  • components of any pallet racking system. In
    essence the presence of any
  • parts or components that are loose should be
    removed. If any, they should
  • be rectified right away and sorted out and
    eliminated for good. Time should
  • always be taken to report any damages, regardless
of how minimal it is to
  • the pallet rack system. Logically, any damage in
    the pallet rack system could
  • definitely cause the pallets to fall - and that
is the last thing anyone could
  • ever want.

3
  • The next safety measure should be ensured by the
    owner at all
  • times. Clear communication between all the people
    that are
  • present arounf the system is necessary. The
    ideology is simple.
  • Climbing on storage racks is a recipe for
    disaster. Doing such
  • might lead to serious unwarranted accidents like
    slips and falls.
  • Not only that particularly moment right after
    assembly it
  • should never be climbed on - at any cost
    whatsoever.

4
  • Always ensure that quality plates are being used.
    Using damaged pallet
  • plates are absolutely out of the question. There
    are instances wherein some
  • management entities may decide to use pallets
    that have a tendency to
  • become faulty or just downright dangerous so that
    they can scrimp out on
  • small amounts to be saved or sometimes it may be
    in certain instances that
  • the management's concern over health and safety
    is limited. The pallets
  • should be inspected regularly for any fractured
or broken planks, or even for
  • stringers. It should also always be checked for
    any possibly risky little details
  • like nails protruding from somewhere or worse,
    missing support blocks. It is
  • also very important to always ensure that only
    properly motorised
  • equipment are being used for the application. If
    not, there is always the
  • grave tendency that it would not be adequate and
    accidents may happen.
  • Not only may that, using inappropriate equipment
    that results in not getting
  • the job done with the efficacy and speediness
    that usually comes with the
  • pallet racking system.

5
  • And more importantly, the end of aisles should
    never be
  • blocked at any instance and at all times. Thus,
    staging pallet
  • racks in these areas is just unacceptable and
    should never be
  • practiced at all, by all means. If this occurs
    the high of severe
  • injury or a fatality is extremely high. Quite
    clearly the health
  • and safety of emplyees should be maintained -
    most especially
  • when it comes to weight requirements. Overloading
    is a no-no.
