Title: Using Your Lineup Card

1
Using Your Lineup Card
  • With the DH and APs

2
About the Designated Hitter
  • A designated hitter (DH) must be selected prior
to the start of the game.
  • The defensive player (DP) name for whom the DH is
    batting
  • The DP should be listed under the DH in the same
lineup spot. They are locked into the same
    position in the batting order.
  • It is not mandatory the use of the DH.
  • Failure to declare a DH at the start, precludes
the use of the DH for the remainder of that game.
  • A pinch hitter or runner can substitute for the
DH, however she become the new DH.
  • The pervious DH can re-enter once under the
    re-entry rule.

3
The role of the DH is terminated when
  • A. The defensive player (DP), or any previous
defensive player for whom the designated hitter
batted, subsequently bats, pinch hits or pinch
    runs for the designated hitter.
  • B. The designated hitter or any other previous
designated hitter assumes a defensive position.

4
About the Additional Player (AP)
  • Additional Player (AP) must be selected prior to
    the start of the game.
  • Up to two additional player can be used to
increase the batting lineup to 10 or 11 batting
    any where.
  • The (APs) can also be used on defense (only 9
    defensive player in the field).
  • The APs must keep the same position in the
    batting order.
  • Failure to declare a APs at the start, precludes
the use of the APs for the remainder of that
    game.
  • If an additional player is used, the position
must be used the entire game.
  • The re-entry rules also apply for the APs

PLAYER POSITION/LINEUPS
  • SITUATION A
  • The batting order lists an additional player
who is not in the team area at the beginning of
    the game.
  • Make the Call?

16
RULING
  • Illegal
  • Rule (5-1-A)
  • A team must have the required number of players
present in the dugout or team area to start or
    continue a game

17
PLAYER POSITION/LINEUPS
  • SITUATION B
  • The lineup card lists the Designated Hitter (DH)
and the person being DH for, the Defensive Player
(DP), in the same batting position.
  • Make the Call?

18
RULING
  • Legal
  • Rule (5-4)
  • When using a DH, the players should both be
listed in batting position where the DH will bat.
1st name is DH second name is DP.

19
PLAYER POSITION/LINEUPS
  • SITUATION C
  • F4 Brown, who is listed in the batting order as
wearing uniform No. 4, is wearing No. 21. After
reaching base in the third inning, the coach of
the defensive team appeals to the umpire that
Brown is batting out of order.
  • Make the Call?

20
RULING
  • Legal
  • Rule (5-1, 9-10)
  • This is a correctable error. While Brown
technically had violated the rule that requires
that players name, shirt number and position to
be on the lineup card, there is no penalty.
However If the number was correct but the player
batting was not Brown, the batting-out-of-order
    penalty would be imposed.

21
It is a Great System but
  • You have to practice it
  • You have to commit to using it

GOOD LUCK!
