11Epidemiologic situation (1)
- As of 31 May 2005 a total of 461 AFP cases were
reported - The distribution by governorate is shown in
(Tables 1 4) - Out of the 250 AFP cases where the lab testing
was finalized, 179 were wild poliovirus type 1
positive and 71 negative - These 179 positive cases are from (Table 5)
- Alhudaidah (133)
- Sanaa City (4)
- Hadramoat Almukalla (2) and Hadramoat Sayeun (12)
- Hajjah (7)
- Taiz (8)
- Amran (8)
- Rimah (2)
- AlDhale (1)
- AlBaidah (1)
- Abyan (1)
- Isolates from 15 cases are pending ITD Hudaidah
(8), Hadramoat Sayeun (3), Hajjah (1), Dhamar
(2), Albaida (1).
12Epidemiologic situation (2)
- In Hudaidah governorate Laboratory confirmed
polio cases were reported from 20 districts.
Most of these cases were infected before the
April NID campaign (Table 2) - So far the spread in the other 10 governorates is
of lesser extent, possibly due to the effect of
the NID (Table 4) - There is evidence of a decrease in number of
reported AFP cases after week 17 ending 24 April
(10 days after the first day of the NID), (Figure
1) - More than half the polio cases are less than 2
years and another 22 is 2-3 years old, those
above 5 are only 7 (Figure 2) - Investigation of cases showed many of them come
from areas which were not covered during April
NID round, which had coverage figures below
expectation. The number of OPV doses received by
about 70 of the cases was less than 4 doses
(Figure 3)
13Important Recent Activities
