Title: 20042007 Technology and Learning Plans

1
2004-2007 Technology and Learning Plans
  • Dennis Small, OSPI
  • October, 2003

2
Goals
  • 279 districts with 3-year approved plans prior to
    6/30/04!
  • Align to School Improvement Plan process required
    by State Board of Education
  • Leverage requirement that SIP Plans address role
    of instructional technology
  • Result in plans that are realistic, relevant,
    thoughtful, and do-able!
  • Streamline process wherever possible

3
Creative Tensions
  • Feds require 3-year district technology plans
most building SIP plans are 1-year plans
    (sometimes 2-yr, occasionally 3-yr)
  • Needs should be identified at building level in
SIP plans, but may need district help to achieve
    them (i.e., funding, PD)
  • Buildings may lack expertise to identify how
    technology can help meet goals
  • Sufficient time for planning vs. deadlines

4
Solutions
  • Provide options on building plans that honor
1-year or 2-year plans, with commitments to
    future years
  • Provide flexibility in identifying funding, PD,
    and other support mechanisms
  • Option to make technology awareness the initial
    1-year goal
  • Moved due date from 1/31/04 to 5/3/04!

5
Key Change from Prior Tech. Planning Process
  • Foundation is learning goals from School
    Improvement Plans of each building
  • District plan is RESPONSE to those goals, and
articulates how they will assist buildings in
    reaching them
  • Timelines and Benchmarks/Budget and Funding
    Sources/Evaluation integrated into other sections
