The church shapes politics and society
  • Clergy- a very influential person in medieval
    culture and politics
  • Society was based on the church
  • Politics run by the church officials such as
    popes

Monks and Friars

The Monks of Cluny
  • The monks of Cluny, France thought the church got
    to interested in politics and made there own
    religious order
  • Religious order they dedicated their lives to
    common rules
  • Living apart from society most monks lived apart
    from society, but two new orders wanted to live
    and teach among the people

Friars
  • Francis of Assisi started the Franciscans while
    Dominic de Guzman started the Dominicans
  • Friars the members of these groups were called
    friars
  • Living within society they stayed near sinners
    and taught those who needed help

  • Thomas Aquinas Made the natural law and argued
    for the existence of god
  • Created by religious leaders the creators of the
    universities were the church leaders.
  • Students take tests there then and now

  2. There must be a fair trial for any wrong doing
  3. No official can take wood for the castle

  • They protect everyones right and land if they
    own any
  • They made it so the people had a fair chance to
    defend themselves

    were inspired to make a parliament.

    today

  • The Magna Carta while it was a great document
    that could be seen as treason and could have lead
    to anarchy, but instead lead to parliament and a
    greater government.

    between the kings of France and England over who
    had control

    daughters to claim the throne so it went to his
    nephew ,but the king of England was another
    member of the family who realized the throne

    and were overpowering the French army

  • It came from Asia by rats and spread it to many
    people along the way
  • It was the bubonic plague

  • Manor systems collapsed and feudalism fell
    instantly
  • Around 75 million people died during the black
    plague

  • The black death was known to be the most lethal
    of all the plague in the world throughout history
