  • Clergy- Church Officials
  • Society- Everything took place at the church
  • Pilgrims-Visited religious places
  • Politics- Church officials often became political
    advisors to local rulers

The Monks of Cluny
  • These Monks of France established new religious
    order.
  • Monks lived apart from society, but two new
    religious orders developed for those who wanted
    to live and teach among people.

Friars
  • Francis of Assisi is creator of Fransicus order.
  • Theses members were called friars.
  • The new religious orders let Friars live with
    people to help the people who were doing wrong.

Universities are Built

  • Europe's first universities were built by the
    churches.
  • In these they studied religion, law, medicine,
    and philosophy.
  • Thomas Aquinas wrote a reasoned response for the
    existence of God. He also developed a philosophy
    system called natural law to show how God ordered
    the world.

    Europe are among the most beautiful of all
    architectural achievements.

The Course of the War
  • In 1328 the king of France died with no sons, and
    two men claimed his throne. One was French and
    the other was the King of England.
  • This did not set well w/English King and a few
    years later he invaded France.
  • France changed drastically in politics.
  • Once the invasion began it began the Hundred
    Years War a long conflict between England and
    France.
  • English did well winning most of battles until a
    teenage peasant rallied French troops. She was
    Joan of Arc.

Changes in England
  • It changed the Government in both England and
    France.
  • England, parliaments power grew because the king
    needed Parliaments approval to raise money to
    pay for costly war. As parliament gained more
    power the king lost it.

  • In France the kings power grew. During the war
    the king became popular to nobles. Fighting the
    English had created a bond between them. This
    made them support king more during war.
