10 Prerequisites Common to Basic Credential
Programs
- CSET/CBEST Examinations-take early
- (begin late in junior year)
- Certificate of Clearance apply 6-12 months in
advance of program admission (applications at
EBA-259)
11Prerequisites Common to Basic Credential
Programs
- GPA 2.67 cumulative (all college coursework) or
2.75 last 60 units - Dual application apply to the university for
post-graduate study AND apply to department one
semester before intended enrollment - Tuberculin clearance to be valid while enrolled
in program (Health Services)
12Overview of the Credential Program
- Most programs are two semesters in length.
- Each semester includes coursework and student
teaching. - The part-time program can be completed over three
or four semesters with student teaching in the
final semester. - The Accelerated Program can be completed in seven
months.

admission requirements. - Attend a group advising session.
15TimelineSenior Year First Semester
- Work toward completion of prerequisite courses ED
451 and SPED 450. - Register to take the CSET/CBEST exams (if these
were not completed in Jr. year). - Stop by the Office of Student Services in
- (EBA 259) and pick up information about applying
for a Certificate of Clearance. - Maintain a strong GPA.
16TimelineSenior Year Second Semester
- Complete the prerequisite courses.
- Download a current credential program application
from STE website. - Apply for readmission to the university using the
graduate application at www.csumentor.edu.
Complete this step before you submit your
credential program application.
17TimelineSenior Year Second Semester
- Gather the items needed to submit the credential
program application. Submit your packet to EBA
255 (early October deadline for spring admission,
early March deadline for fall admission). - Maintain a strong GPA.

- Administered by CA Student Aid Commission
- Incentive Program to encourage outstanding
students to become California teachers in - Subject areas where critical teacher shortage has
been identified - Designated schools that meet criteria established
by Superintendent of Public Instruction
22APLE - 11K - 19K
- Up to 11,000 dollars paid to your lender(s) over
course of 4 years (up to 2K in Year 1, 3K in
years 2-4) - Additional 1K per year for math or science
(grades 7-12) or special education - Additional 1K per year for teaching these
subjects in lowest 20th percentile API
