What is a Small Community School Health Advisory
Council?
  • A group of health concerned citizens/parents and
    school personnel
  • Number of members have been unrestricted
  • Everyone is welcome to participate
  • Recruitment is by word of mouth, personal
    invitation and district web page invitation

How is Our Council Set Up?
  • Informal Structure
  • A Chair Person
  • A Secretary for minutes
  • Meetings are usually held in October, November,
    January, February and March.
  • Meetings are kept to one hour (unless previously
    discussed) 530 to 630pm
  • Extra meetings are arranged as requested by
    majority attending meeting

  • 1) Environment stats of injury/accidents at
    campuses, disability layout of campuses,
    surrounding environment of schools, access/cracks
    of sidewalks, etc.
  • 2) Nutrition meals served, satisfaction survey,
    FMNV, nutrition policy, General Mills Wellness
    Grant

    equipment needs, fitnessgram, jump rope for
    heart, cancer/diabetes walk, health fairs, field
    days
  • 4) Mental Health Community in Schools
  • 5) Health Education health topics being taught

    dental health, communicable disease prevention

My Tips for Council Meeting Success
  • Keep meeting short, sweet and too the point
  • Make everyone feel welcome to participate
  • Keep on agenda/task Be careful not to schedule
    to much to be discussed during time allotted
  • Pay attention to time
  • Always adjourn on time
