17FAQ - 1-14
How do I ensure that my HS sons are eligible for
scholarships? Please contact the HS guidance
counselor. Does every MS and HS have a GT Liaison
now? Yes, since January 2007. Are there studies
that compare classes of 100 GT kids versus 50
and under? Research in this area is found in GT
periodicals, including Roeper Review, TEMPO,
Gifted Child Quarterly . How are highly gifted
kids treated differently than gifted kids? All
gifted children are treated individually. Do
half-day kindergarten gt identified children
receive gt services? Yes. Besides grade
skipping, what options are available to gifted
students? Differentiated curriculum, including
depth and complexity, telescoping, and
independent study are some options. What is the
status of considering the IB Program Model, a
full day GT Program? In KISD, program options
best suited for student populations, are a
consideration. Once a student is identified for
the KISD GT Program does this follow them through
MS and HS years? Yes. Is there a set of kids
that are brought into the GT Program? How do you
determine group size or is it based only on
test scores and group size fluctuations? The
KISD GT Program follows the Texas State Plan for
Gifted. At any time a student may be referred.
If the student meets the criteria, that student
qualifies for the gt program. What is the
communication mechanism to use if you feel your
child is not being challenged? Please
contact the campus, the teacher, the gt
specialist, the administrator. How are cluster
groups decided? K-6 A collaboration with campus
administration, gt specialists, and
teachers. When can a student be tested for gifted
in Keller ISD? GT referral is on-going. What are
the GT requirements/criteria needed for the KISD
GT Program? The K-12 Keller ISD GT Program
criteria are consistent district-wide. Multiple
criteria include quantitative and qualitative
data. If my child has been tested in another
state, does that testing apply in KISD? Each
district in Texas has a set of criteria to enter
the GT Program. Out of state testing is
beneficial.
18FAQ - 15-26

resources in elementary school? K-12 resources
are available to parents through campus gt
specialists, gt liaisons, and through specific
websites. Please explain Destination Imagination

the GT program in Keller ISD? For K-12, the name

identified in other kindergartens. When pulled
from the classroom, do gt students have to make
up missed work? No. The student needs to be
able to demonstrate mastery. In elementary, how
are students new to the district identified and
