Who is ETI?
  • Founded in 1947, the Equipment and Tool Institute
is the not-forprofit trade association of
manufacturers of automotive tools and equipment.
  • Mission
  • Advance the vehicle service industry by
providing technical data and open dialog between
    the manufacturers of transportation products,
government regulators and the providers of tools,
    equipment and service information.

ETI Became Self-Managed
  • As of January 1, 2006 ETI is no longer managed by
    an association management company.

    becoming self-managed

ETI Member vs. non-Member participation at
ToolTech 2006
13
  • We acknowledge that there have been a few bumps
in the road to get here
  • Thursday night hotel stays and having to switch
    hotels
  • 30 minute One-on-Ones instead of 45 minutes
  • Delay in getting One-on-One schedule out
  • Constant changes
  • AMMCO cancelling at the last minute
  • We just did not know last year how successful
    this year would be.

14
  • Current Projects

15
Current Projects
  • ToolTech 2007 Planning
  • Web-based database integration
  • Software Piracy Issue
  • Sales and Marketing Vertical Group Addition

16
Planning for ToolTech 2007
  • Items that we have noted this year to improve for
    next year
  • Clarify how rooming list works.
  • Clarify attendee vs. exhibitor.
  • Any OEM/Buyer that does the One-on-Ones will not
    pay registration fee.
  • Move golf tournament to Friday to allow more
    One-on-One times
  • Add a company description to the registration
    form.
  • Develop a priority system for booth location to
    exhibitors from the previous year.
  • Prioritize within members, keeping in mind
attendees, years of participation and total
    contribution to ToolTech.
  • Perhaps do away with rooming list and each
    individuals make their own reservations
  • Please help improve ToolTech by turning in your
    critiques!
  • ETI members can become involved in the planning
of ToolTech 2007 by volunteering to serve on the
    Programs Committee.
  • See me after this meeting if you are interested.

17
Web-Based Database
  • We are in the process of integrating a web-based
    database into our current website.
  • While most of the benefit comes as more effective
and efficient administration for staff, there
will be some added functionality that will also
    benefit the general membership.
  • Members and non-members will be able to update
    their personal profile online
  • Each delegate will be able to edit company
    information themselves
  • More user-friendly forms

18
Software Piracy Issue
  • Many of our Third Party Information Providers are
fighting an uphill battle against software
    piracy!
  • Here is a link to a story about one of our
    members and their fight
  • http//www.aftermarketnews.com/amn.dll/getstory?st
    orynum23312
  • ETI will be taking up the fight on an industry
    level
  • Look for more in the coming months.
  • Contact me if you would like to be involved.

19
Sales and Marketing Vertical Group
  • We know that we can offer more support to our
members on the sales and marketing side.
  • ToolTech is a major component of the current
    support.
  • A Sales and Marketing Vertical Group has been
    suggested.
  • To do this correctly we have been gathering input
from the membership via the personal visits.

20
Products, Services and Benefits
  • We asked what these might be. Here are the most
    commonly mentioned responses
  • Market Research
  • Sales and Marketing Library
  • Non-US information
  • We are still in the process of discovering what
the membership really wants from this new
    vertical group.
  • We will continue to update the membership as more
    details are worked out.

21
  • Future Projects
