Friday 16th May 2008
Burlington Danes is approaching an exciting
stage in its evolution, with the opening of a new
Sixth Form in September 2009. In our opening
year we will offer a range of traditional A Level
courses, alongside a number of vocational
options. We are confident that we will be
able to offer students a level of support,
challenge and enrichment that they will not find
elsewhere. Resources will be brand new, and well
be moving into state of the art facilities once
the current building work is complete.
Twelve pupils in Yr10, which will be the first
year group to join the Sixth Form, were this week
invited to form the Pioneer Group. This group
will be consulted throughout the process of
setting up the Sixth Form, ensuring that the
students make an active contribution to this new
development.
Postage Charges We regret that some parents were
forced to pay for the delivery of a recent letter
form the Academy concerning uniform, as the
envelopes were incorrectly franked. We apologise
for this. Please bring the envelopes to the
school reception so that we can reimburse you.
Burma and China
Staff and students have been reflecting this week
on the tragic events that have hit Burma and
China. It is estimated that 130,000 people lost
their lives in the Burma Cyclone, while in China
the death toll from the earthquake appears to be
approaching 50,000. We pray for those who have
been affected by these events.

Revision Tip of the Week
Exam-busting advice from a BDA Teacher
Mr Fox, Literacy and Geography The biggest
mistake with revision is to believe that just
reading over work is revising. To avoid falling
into this trap we must set out clear objectives
before each revision session e.g. I will use
this web page to answer this exam paper, I will
use these notes to create a mind map showing all
the information on this subject, I will use this
book to write notes on the key features of this
subject.
3The Notice Board
Homework The Academy is committed to setting
frequent and meaningful homework. Please check
your son/daughters planner regularly to ensure
that it is being recorded. Keep an eye on next

timetable, which will enable you to know exactly
when homework is set for each of your
son/daughters lessons.
