8Canadian Plumbing Code - AmendmentHot Water
Temperature
- 2.10.7 Maximum Temperature of Hot Water
- (1) Except as provided in Sentence (2), the
maximum temperature of hot water supplied by
fittings to fixtures in residential occupancy
shall not exceed 49ºC. - (2) Sentence (1) does not apply to hot water
supplied to installed dishwashers or clothes
washers.
9Canadian Plumbing Code - AmendmentHot Water
Temperature
- How to comply
- Fit a master thermostatic mixing valve at the
water heater to distribute at 49ºC throughout the
whole house, or - Fit a mixing valve at each outlet.
- Note Recommend always fit an automatic
compensating shower valve at each shower fixture.

14How does a Cash Acme Thermostatic Mixing
Valve work?
15Thermostatic Mixing Valve
16(No Transcript)
17Principle of Operation
- Designed to mix hot/cold water supplies and
deliver water at a safe temperature. - Controlled by an integrated thermostatic element
that senses the inlet water temperature and adds
cold water accordingly. - Heatguard valves also offer a shutdown in case
of cold water failure.
18Applications
- Distribution (HG 110, 115) Allows water to be
stored at a sterilizing temperature and delivered
at a safe temperature. - Point-Of-Use (HG 145, 160) Can be used in either
large distribution systems or directly at the
hand lavatory, bath, or other direct fixture. -
19Markets
- Heating Accurate, inexpensive valves for
hydronic heating. High flow rates, low pressure
loss, wide temperature range. - Domestic/Potable Water Aid in the prevention of
scalding and Legionnaires Disease. Heatguard
TMVs distribute safe, tempered water to the
outlet while providing washing machines and
dishwashers with water at a higher temperature.
20Valve Location
- The most common installation site is directly at
the water heater. - - less costly, protects entire system, easily
serviced - A valve may also be installed directly at the
fixture, namely the HG 145 and 160 TMVs. - - may be best solution to protecting individual
fixtures - Installation must follow local codes and
requirements.
21Valve Location Direct Installation
22Valve Location Single Fixture
23Servicing
- Valve function can easily be checked by measuring
the water temperature at the outlet nearest to
the valve. - - If the temperature is the same as originally
commissioned, the valve is working fine - - If the temperature is different, it may
be because of debris buildup. Disassemble and
clean the valve.
24Cash Acme Recommendation
- The installation of a Cash Acme Thermostatic
Mixing Valve should comply with the local Codes,
Standards, and Safe Practices. - Our valves are certified under the applicable
Industry Standards, and meet or exceed
performance guidelines.
