Title: Proper Pipe Marking Techniques for Warehouses

1
Proper Pipe Marking Techniques for Warehouses
2
Color Indicators Just like safety tape,
industrial pipes, like those found at warehouses,
can be color-coordinated in order show their
contents. Every color represents a different
kind of content, as described on the following
slides.
3
Yellow Indicates Flammable Contents If a pipe is
yellow, this means whatever its carrying can
produce vapors and ignite. You should not smoke
near these pips nor use any machinery that might
give off a spark.
Flammable
4
Orange Indicates Toxic Corrosive Some
factories use ingredients that are toxic and even
corrosive. These must be contained within orange
pipes and transported to safe long-term
storage. If you see an orange pipe leaking, be
sure to tell Someone in charge immediately.
5
Red Indicates Fire Suppressant Red pipes might
make you think the contents are hot, but they are
actually quite the opposite. Red means fire
suppressant. This could indicate water for the
sprinkler system or other substances used to
suppress fires in large warehouses.
6
Green Indicates Water Water going in and out of
the warehouse that isnt used for fire
suppression is marked with a green pipe. Be sure
to shut the water off before you try to fix any
green pipe leaks and post floor signs around
flooded areas.
7
Blue Indicates Air Many systems use air for
their environmental conditions as well as for
hydraulic tools, and this air travels through
blue pipes. Release valves on blue pipes slowly
as the contents are normally under great
pressure.
8
Industrial Labeling System You can also simply
print your own labels with a label or sign
printer meant for industrial labeling. Just
remember to make your labels large, simple, easy
to read, and above all else, easy to
understand.
9
Pipe Marking Tape If you dont want to bother
with color-coordinated pipes or creating your own
labels, you can use safety tape to mark those
pipes at prominent areas. Pipe marking tape will
be color-coordinated, can include text labels,
and sometimes includes arrows to show direction
of flow.
10
Protect People by Labeling Pipes No matter what
kind of pipes you have running throughout your
facility, make sure you understand what is in
them. Then, its up to you to label them
appropriately and inform your team to keep
everyone a bit more safe on the job.
