Title: A Beautiful Life
1A Beautiful Life
2(No Transcript)
3What is life all about?
- What is the good life?
- How do we get to the good life?
- What is it that makes us happy?
- Or is that the right way to say it?
- Is it instead, what makes us blessed?
4Psalm 1
- (Psa 1 NKJV) Blessed is the man Who walks not in
the counsel of the ungodly, - Nor stands in the path of sinners,
- Nor sits in the seat of the scornful
- 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
- And in His law he meditates day and night.
5Psalm 1
- (Psa 1 NKJV) 3 He shall be like a tree Planted
by the rivers of water, - That brings forth its fruit in its season,
- Whose leaf also shall not wither
- And whatever he does shall prosper.
6Psalm 1
- (Psa 1 NKJV) 4 The ungodly are not so,
- But are like the chaff which the wind drives
away. - 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the
judgment, - Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
7Psalm 1
- 6 For the LORD knows the way of the
righteous, - But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
8It was Augustine who said,
- You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and
our hearts are restless until
they rest in you. - So how do we find out what life is all about, and
how we are to live?
9All things that
- pertain to life and godliness,
102 Peter 11-4 NKJV
- Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus
Christ, To those who have obtained like precious
faith with us by the righteousness of our God and
Savior Jesus Christ 2 Grace and peace be
multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of
Jesus our Lord,
112 Peter 11-4 NKJV
- 3 as His divine power has given to us all
things that pertain to life and godliness,
through the knowledge of Him who called us by
glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to
us exceedingly great and precious promises, that
through these you may be partakers of the divine
nature, having escaped the corruption that is in
the world through lust.
12We must admit we need a rule book.
- (Jer 1023 NKJV)
- O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself
It is not in man who walks
to direct his own steps.
13Our rule book is the word of God.
- (2 Tim 316-17 NKJV) All Scripture is given
by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man
of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for
every good work.
14It is a complete set of instructions.
- (2 Tim 317 NKJV) that the man of God may be
complete, thoroughly equipped for every good
work.
15Home is where the heart is.
16God is the One Who gave us Home.
- The first home was the Garden of Eden.
- It was a perfect home.
- Adam and Eve had each other and lived peacefully
together until Satan came on the scene. - Sin entered the world, and everything changed
immediately.
17Sin entered the world, and everything changed
immediately.
- (Gen 39-12 NKJV) Then the LORD God called to
Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" 10 So he
said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I
was afraid because I was naked and I hid
myself." 11 And He said, "Who told you that you
were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which
I commanded you that you should not eat?" 12
Then the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be
with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate."
18The peace and harmony of the home was gone.
- Adam blames Eve for his problems.
- Ultimately, he blames God.
- Eve blames the Serpent.
- In the end, their home is lost.
- Their lives will be lost, they will die!
- The happiness of the home was shattered.
19The Garden Home was lost
- (Gen 322-24 NKJV) Then the LORD God said,
"Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to
know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his
hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat,
and live forever" 23 therefore the LORD God
sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the
ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove
out the man and He placed cherubim at the east
of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which
turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of
life.
20Today, there are rules for the home.
- (1 Cor 71-5 NIV) Now for the matters you wrote
about It is good for a man not to marry. 2 But
since there is so much immorality, each man
should have his own wife, and each woman her own
husband. 3 The husband should fulfill his
marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife
to her husband. 4 The wife's body does not
belong to her alone but also to her husband.
21Today, there are rules for the home.
- (1 Cor 71-5 NIV) In the same way, the husband's
body does not belong to him alone but also to his
wife. 5 Do not deprive each other except by
mutual consent and for a time, so that you may
devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together
again so that Satan will not tempt you because of
your lack of self-control.
22He has given us all things.
- (2 Pet 13-4 NKJV) 3 as His divine power has
given to us all things that pertain to life and
godliness, through the knowledge of Him who
called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have
been given to us exceedingly great and precious
promises, that through these you may be partakers
of the divine nature, having escaped the
corruption that is in the world through lust.
23The rules include the men
- He is responsible for training his children.
- (Eph 64 NKJV) And you, fathers, do not provoke
your children to wrath, but bring them up in the
training and admonition of the Lord.
24The rules include the men
- He is to provide for their physical needs.
- (1 Tim 58 NKJV) But if anyone does not provide
for his own, and especially for those of his
household, he has denied the faith and is worse
than an unbeliever.
25The home is to be permanent.
- (1 Cor 710-11 NKJV) Now to the married I
command, yet not I but the Lord A wife is not to
depart from her husband. 11 But even if she
does depart, let her remain unmarried or be
reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not
to divorce his wife.
26The heavenly home is yet to be
- (1 Tim 48 NKJV) For bodily exercise profits a
little, but godliness is profitable for all
things, having promise of the life that now is
and of that which is to come.
27What happens if we mess up?
- There is forgiveness, but there are the scars.
- For King David, it was a memory that would not
go away.
28Have mercy upon me, O God!
- (Psa 511-3 NKJV) Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness According to
the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my
transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my
iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I
acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is
always before me.
29For Paul, there were the terrible memories.
- (1 Tim 115-16 NKJV) This is a faithful saying
and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus
came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am
chief. 16 However, for this reason I obtained
mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show
all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are
going to believe on Him for everlasting life.
30- He has given us the rule book, may we ask Him to
help us keep it.
31- For those who make mistakes, there is
forgiveness, but there may still be the scars
that we live with.
