• Protagonist of Fahrenheit 451
• Fireman, who burns books and houses where they
  are kept illegally
• 30 years old
• Married with Mildred since 10 years

• At the beginning Montag seems to be the
  quintessential fireman
• Thinks himself to be happy

• Becomes discontent as he realizes that his life
  is empty and unfulfilling
• He is disgusted with himself and does not know
  what to do
• Realises the ignorance of his society
