MILLENIUM PARK
  • Overall is a showcase for modern architecture
  • Pritzker pavilion is a band shell designed by
    world-famous architect Frank Gehry
  • Pavilion is home to many famous musical
    performances
  • The cloud gate, also more commonly called the
bean due to its beanish qualities, is a 23
million work of artist Anish Kapoor
  • The highly polished steel structure reflects the
sky, the city, and the tourists viewing it, all
    at different angles.
  • The last marvel to be mentioned about millennium
park is Crown Fountain, designed by Jaume Plenza.
  • The fountains are two 50-ft towers that display
over 1000 faces of Chicagoans, while water
distastefully sprays from the faces mouths.

3
Central Park
  • Created in 1853 by Frederick Calvert Vaux and
Andrew Green along with Frederick Law Olmsted.
  • Created due to the peoples need for wide, open
    spaces as population quadrupled.
  • Although the park has been through many troubles,
and came close to being destroyed by the city
many times, it still stands today as New Yorks
    most famous park.
  • Now, it includes many sculptures such as a statue
of Christopher Columbus, John Quincy Adams Ward,
    and the sled dog Balto.
  • Also, nowadays, many open-aired theater
productions are broadcasted for the public.
    Usually these are Shakespearian plays.

4
Battery Park
  • Space for the park was created by landfill in the
1800s, the space was never actually designed.
  • In December of 2005, builders working on a
Subway station in Battery Park found the remains
of a 200 year old wall.
  • Corresponding to New York, Leonard Bernstein
would say and the Batterys down, as it is
located at the Southern tip of Manhattan.
  • Just After 9/11, Fritz Cohens The Sphere was
moved from just outside the World Trade Center to
    Battery Park.
  • Joined with an eternal flame, The Sphere is
meant to be a memorial for the victims of 9/11.

5
Golden Gate Park
  • This extremely large park is obviously, found in
    San Francisco, California.
  • To get through all of this huge park, one would
have to work their way through a Japanese Tea
Garden, Music Concourse Area, the De Young
Museum, an Academy of Sciences, the Strybing
Arboretum, an AIDS memorial grove, Stows Lake,
Spreckels Lake, a Conservatory of Flowers, Kezar
Stadium, JFK drive, and walk around a small herd
    of Bison!
  • Among the most popular things to see at the park
is the Japanese Tea Garden and AIDS memorial
grove, which is the only national AIDS monument.

6
Hyde Park
  • Hyde Park is one of the largest parks in London,
England, and is one of the royal parks of London.
  • The grand entrance to Hyde Park is humorously
called the grand entrance, which includes
    entrance archways and lonic columns.
  • Who is Hyde Park named after?it is said in the
novel The League of Extraordinary Gentleman that
the park is named after none other than Edward
Hyde, the alter ego of mild-mannered Henry
    Jekyll.
  • Other sites of interest in the park include a
monument of Diana, Princess of Wales, and a
speakers corner, where many speeches are
    delivered.

7
Stanley Park
  • Stanley Park was named after Lord Stanley, the
governor of Canada at the time.
  • The park includes a vast seawall, where tourists
and Canadians can walk, bike, or roller skate
along some of the most famous of Canadas
    waterways.
  • A miniature railway carries paying customers
along a 15 minute journey through Stanley Park
zoo, which is conveniently located in Stanley
    Park.
  • Two Spirits sculpture, which is basically a legal
representation of Copenhagen in Denmark, is
included in the park. The sculpture includes
minor changes to Copenhagen, mainly to avoid all
    law suits.
