    automotive facilities, Government and industry
    leaders have come together to develop the New
    Jersey Green Automotive Repair Program
    (NJGARP).

    (NJ CAR)
  • The New Jersey Gasoline C-Store Automotive

  • The New Jersey Department of Environmental
    Protection (DEP)

NJGARPs Goal
  • NJGARPs goal is to promote Green practices
    with the States automotive repair facilities in
    an effort to minimize their impact on the
    environment.
  • The NJGARP program offers the States automotive
    repair shops specific ways to adopt green
    business practices that will conserve New
    Jerseys precious resources and reduce their
    carbon footprint.

NJGARPs Process
  • Working together, the NJGARP Committee and the
    DEP developed a checklist of green initiatives
    that auto repair facilities can implement to
    become more environmentally responsible
  • The 88-point list includes items such as
  • Pollution prevention measures
  • Resource conservation measures
  • Waste fluids management
  • Energy and water conservation
  • Waste water reduction
  • Recycling practices
  • Customer and worker protection at the facility

NJGARP Process (cont.)
  • Each item on the green initiative checklist has
    an assigned point value.
  • To earn NJGARPs green certification, a repair
    facility must implement enough practices to score
    a minimum of 300 points
  • Compliance is ensured through on-site inspections
    by
  • ECM, Environmental Compliance Monitoring ,Inc.
  • NJGARP-Certified repair facilities must apply for
    recertification every two years
  • On-site inspections are required for
  • re-certification as well

  • Good environmental policies also translate into
    good business practices. When a repair shop
    conserves water and energy, it not only
    contributes to the overall good of the
    environment by reducing its carbon footprint, it
    also saves money.
