WINTER CAMP The registration form and information
was included in the November Newsletter. There
is still plenty of time to get it turned in. The
dates are January 27-29th, 2006 and it will be
held at Forest Lake Camp (between Ottumwa and
Bloomfield). This camp is open to 5th, 6th, and
7th grade 4-Hers. Amy Fuglestad-Nahnsen is the
Camp Facilitator and Sue Henderson is the Head
Chef. The last day to register is January 6th,
2006 and the total cost for any Monroe County 4-H
member is 52.50. Only the first 60 paid spots
are guaranteed so dont be late, get your
registration form in soon!
CONGRATULATIONS The 76th Annual Monroe County
4-H Awards Program was a success. There were
about 65 people in attendance! There is a
special honors page in this newsletter with all
the Award Recipients and the Donors. Please make
sure that you write a Thank You to the Sponsor of
any award that you received. If you didnt get
an award or if we misspelled something, please us
know so we can take care of it and make the
appropriate changes. Special Thanks go out
to Senior and Junior Youth Council Members Helen

2ANIMAL CLIPS
Fair Superintendents A huge Thank You to all the
Chairmen and committee members that have
responded and gathered the information that is
required to get ready for the 2006 Monroe County
Fair. I am still in need of a Bucket Calf and a
Goat Superintendent. If you could help out in
those areas please let me know. I will be
getting all the Judges Letters ready to be mailed
out right after the first of the year. If I have
not heard from your Department, please get your
information gathered and let me know where your
committee stands. FSQA TRAINING The date for the
FSQA Training Program in Monroe County is set for
Tuesday, March 14th, 2006 _at_ 630 p.m. If you
prefer to take the age appropriate test you must
call the Extension Office and set up a
pre-scheduled time. Remember This training is
mandatory for all exhibitors of MEAT PRODUCTION
ANIMALS!
- BEEF WEIGH-IN
- The beef weigh-in will be December 31st, 2005 at
the Monroe County Fairgrounds. It will be from
900 a.m. 1100 a.m. This will be your only
opportunity to weigh in the market beef. We will
be weighing in the county and state livestock.
Nose printing and DNA will be done for anyone who
is planning on exhibiting at the Iowa State Fair
or Ak-sar-ben. We will be weighing in only
animals from Monroe County unless someone from
another county makes special arrangements with us
prior to December 31st. - The ID sheet requires the signatures of both the
parent and the 4-Her. If either one is not able
to be present the day of the weigh- in, you must
sign a waiver by December 30th. New this year If
you are showing at the state fair or Ak-sar-ben
and unable to attend the weigh-in you must have a
parent and/or member waiver on file. We must send
these papers into the state office with all of
the other paper work. You can pick up the waiver
at the Monroe County Extension Office. This
waiver must accompany the calves at the weigh- in
on December 31st. - Cost
- for State Fair and Ak-sar-ben calves - 5.00 per
verification fee (includes ear tag, DNA kit and
paperwork. - The Jim Carr Family will be paying the ear tag

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP 2006 Iowa 4-H Scholarship
Information is now available for 4-Hers
attending or planning to attend college fall of
2006. Ninety-one scholarship programs totaling
over 97,000 may be awarded. Contact the
Extension Office to receive an application or
information or you can access through the 4-H
public web page www.extension.iastate.edu/4H/gran
ts.html Applications are due by February 1, 2006
3 BABYSITTING BASICS TRAINING COMPLETED The
Babysitting Basics Clinic recently certified 14
students in grades 5-7. The course was completed
on Saturday, November 19th. The students
attended sessions on two different days and
gained vast knowledge through the program. The
facilitators were Amy Fuglestad-Nahnsen, Area
Youth Field Specialist and Angela Tratchel,
Monroe County Youth Coordinator. Guest speakers
were Twilla Kruzic, RN, Monroe County Public
Health (First Aid and Basic Healthcare), Nancy
Hendel, (Employer Expectations), John Freshwater,
Albia Volunteer Fire Department (Fire Safety),
and Chief Jim Gritman, Monroe County Law Center,
(Safety). All worked together to educate the
students. It was a great experience for all!
TROY TROOPER OFFICERS The Troy Troopers 4-H club
elected the following officers at their November
meeting President Colton Cason Vice President

Wynn. Christmas Party is set for Thursday,
December 29th at 630 p.m to 815 p.m. at The
Trinity United Methodist Church. The club will
provide Chicken on a Stick, Snack Food and
Drinks. Bring a Grab Bag gift 2.00 value if you
want to participate. If you have any questions
call a Leader. PONCHO WORKSHOP The Troy Good
Homemakers 4-H Club held a very successful Poncho
Workshop on Saturday, November 19th at the
Trinity United Methodist Church. 30 4-H members
attended and constructed ponchos and some other
fabulous items out of fleece. Watch for these at
the 2006 Monroe County Fair! CWF Trip If you
have not turned in your Application for the
Citizenship-Washington Focus Trip it is not too
late! Monroe County will pay 50 of the total
cost of the trip. I need these in as soon as
possible. Interviews will be held the middle of
this month. Monroe County can send 2 Delegates
and we will choose 2 Alternates for this once in
a lifetime experience!
FOLLOW-UP ON LEADERS NEWSLETTER Just a few
reminders Make sure that if your club is
interested in applying for any of the Grants
available that you watch the deadlines. They are
quickly approaching. If you have not completed
the 4-H Compliance Report or the Iowa 4-H
Volunteer Newsletter Survey I need those back in
the Extension Office as soon as possible. The
Compliance Report must be in our files and The
Survey I have to forward on to the State Office.

4CLOVER CLUB Clover Club will not meet in
December. We will meet again January 12th, 2006.
The theme for the month will be Mad Hatter Tea
Party. See you in January.
INFORMATION
LEADERS RETREAT Just a reminder that if you
want to register for the Leaders Retreat
scheduled for Friday, February 17th and Saturday,
February 18th, 2006 you can just call the
Extension Office and I can get your name on the
list. It will be held at DMACC in Newton, Iowa.
I have received a tentative schedule and there
are a lot of interesting workshops on the agenda.
Some examples are Clothing Event Workshop,
Record Keeping (Record Books) Workshop,
Nutrition, and Trash to Treasures Workshop which
looks very interesting. OVERALL WOMEN A
Conference for Todays Rural Woman Spend time to
benefit yourself, your family, your farm, and
your community on February 10th and 11th, 2006.
This conference will be held at the Cedar Rapids
Marriott Hotel. It is for women involved in
agriculture in any aspect, or just wanting to
learn more about todays agriculture. There will
be 32 different workshop sessions along with an
expanded exhibit area. Farm broadcaster and
motivational speaker, Colleen Callahan of
Kickapoo, IL will be the keynote speaker.
Register by January 27th, 2006. The cost is

FISHING CLUB The fishing club met on Friday,
November 11th, 2005. There were 22 members and 8
Volunteers that fished and enjoyed a Wiener Roast
for lunch. Look for another event in January and
we will keep you informed of the date and
activity.
4-H MEMBERS SPOTLIGHT This month I saw it very
fitting to honor all the Senior and Junior 4-H
Youth Council Members that participated in the
76th Annual 4-H Awards Program. They all did a
fabulous job and pitched in and helped wherever
and whenever needed. They helped produce a
wonderful program! THANK YOU! You can find the
