Form and Structure
  • Poems are written in lines.
  • Lines can vary in length and can fit the rhythm,
    feeling, or thought expressed in the poem.

  • Lines that are grouped together are called
    stanzas.
  • Stanzas are separated in the poem by a space.

  • The way a poems lines and words are arranged on
    the page is called its form.
  • A poet chooses a particular form based on the
    message or theme that he or she is trying to
    express.

  • A type of narrative poem that tells a story.
  • Has story elements setting, plot, and
    characters.

    of a nation or a group.

  • A lyric poem (song like) that addresses broad,
    serious themes such as justice, truth, or beauty.
