• Sister of Castor and Pollux
• Is in love with Paris, ran away from Agamemnon
• Left Greece and went to Troy into the Islands of
  Ithaca
• Paris also gave the golden apple to Aphrodite

• Tyndareus is king of Greece
• Tyndareus chose Menelaus, brother of Agamemnon
• Tyndareus made M king of Sparta as well

• Paris breaks secret bond with Menelaus by taking
  Helen back to Troy
• Menelaus gets all Greece to help find her
• M and chieftains had a 1000 ships sail with Greek
  soldiers to Troy.

• A soothsayer, Calchas declared that the gods had
  spoken to him Artemis was angry, she was angry
  because the Greeks had slain one of her beloved
  creatures, the hare. And they needed for the sea
  to have calm winds so that the voyage would be
  safe. So they sacrificed Iphigenia, daughter of
  Agamemnon.

• The Trojan city was strong too.
• The king was Priam, and the queen was Hecuba
• They had a strong son named Hector a marvelous
  warrior, more noble than anyone.

• But the champion of the Greeks was Achilles.
• Each of them knew they would die before troy was
  taken.

• Then Calchas stood up and said why the god was
  angry, and he implied that Chryseis must be given
  back to her father, and Agamemnon said if she
  goes I will have someone take her place. And he
  had 2 men go to Achilles tent and take away
  maiden Briseis.

• A quarrel then flared up between Achilles and
  Agamemnon.
• Their was a women being fought for, Chryseis,
  daughter of Apollos priest, who had been given
  to Agamemnon. Her father begged for her to be
  free, but wouldnt let her.

• Then the next day Patroclus, related to Achilles,
  had seen the Greek army set to the Trojan wall
  and he decided to get Achilles armor , shield,
  and weapon and disguise him self and bring out
  his men, Myrmidons. Out to battle he encountered
  Hector and was killed by him, hector did not kn
  that it was not Achilles

• Achilles rode into Troy to battle Hector.
• After arriving he steps down from his chariot and
  the fight begins.
• Achilles ends up killing Hector and strapping him
  to his chariot and dragging him behind it.
• Apollo left him to his fate

• In Olympus, Zeus was displeased by this scene so
  he sent Iris to Priam, Hectors father to
  retrieve Hectors Body from Achilles.
• Achilles gave him back and then in 9 days Priam
  had lamented him. They laid him on a loft pyre
  and set him to fire, so that his spirits went to
  the gods.
