Flow Meters

• Provide water flow in gallons per minute
• Are particularly advantageous when supplying
  hoselines or master stream devices equipped with
  automatic nozzles
• Make it possible for driver/operator to pump the
  correct volume of water to nozzles without having
  to know the length of hoseline, the amount of
  friction loss, or whether nozzles are above or
  below the pump

Flow Meters

• May be used instead of pressure gauges on all
  discharges 1 ½ to 3 inches in diameter, according
  to NFPA 1901 Standard for Automotive Fire
  Apparatus
• May be used on discharges that are 3 ½ or
  larger, but must also have an accompanying
  pressure gauge
• Must provide a readout in increments no larger
  than 10 gpm

Hydraulic Calculators

• Manual Mechanicalproperly line up water flow,
  size of hose, and length of the hose lay on a
  rotary or slide rule-type calculator and then
  read the required pump discharge pressure.
• ElectronicInput known information into
  preprogrammed calculator, which then computes the
  required pump discharge pressure.
