BATTLE OF BULL RUN

• A beautiful clear spring day, Sunday, April 21,
  1860
• Manassas,Virginia near a stream called Bull Run.
  Not far from Washington DC
• Carriages pull in on the hill overlooking Bull
  Run
• Women with parasols and picnic lunches
• Men waiting for a quick Union victory

Stonewall to the Rescue!

• Confederates from the Shenandoah proceed to
  Manassas
• General Thomas Jackson urges men to step out
  like men and make a forced march to save the
  country.
• By noon April 21st are positioned on a plateau
• General Bee tries to stop a confederate retreat
• The men see Jackson standing in front of his men
  like stone wall
• Men begin to rally around, and tide of war
  changes for Confederates.

Who-who-ey!!!

• When Union line is in plain sight, General
  Beauregard orders a charge.
• Reserve your fire till they come within fifty
  yards, then give them the bayonet. And when you
  charge, yell like furies!
• The entire Union army falls back, and hurries off
  the field
• Panic-stricken picnickers rush back to Washington
  DC

Picnic Surprise Ending

• The battle is over, boys are no longer joking and
  laughing
• Two thousand Confederates are killed or wounded
• Three thousand Union men killed or wounded
• One Union soldier saved by a pocket sized bible
