• Betsy died on January 30, 1836, at the age of 84 .

She was the 8th of 17 children.

• She had five daughters Clarissa Sidney,
  Susannah, Rachel, Jane, and Harriet, who died at
  nine months.

Husbands

• First husband ,John Ross, died of an explosion
  they were married for 2 years.
• Second husband , Joseph Ashburn, died at sea by
  an illness and they were married for 5 years
• Third husband ,John Claypoole, died of a lengthy
  illness.

Deaths

• In 1793, Betsys sister died from the yellow
  fever, leaving Betsy to raise her niece.
• For nearly 20 years, John Claypoole was disabled
  as a result of his earlier war injuries he died
  in 1817.
• Nine of her brothers and sisters died when they
  were young.
• The picture above is John Claypoole and Betsy
  Rosss grave.

Parents

• Samuel and Rebecca Griscom were Quakers.
• In 1793, Betsys mother, father, and sister died
  within days of each other from the yellow fever.

• Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily October through
  March ,April to October closed Mondays.
• Admission 3 for adults and seniors and 2 for
  children 12 and under.
