What is Outlook Web Access?
Outlook Web Access, or OWA, allows you to access
your email from anywhere in the world via the
Internet. It features many of the same features
offered by Gaggle, plus a lot more
flexibility. In this presentation, we will cover
the basic functionality of OWA.
4
Browser Compatibility
CUSD will be using Outlook Web Access Light. It
is compatible with all browsers including
Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. You may
need to adjust the size of the email font on your
screen. Please refer to the CUSD website for
instructions for your specific browser.

  • Reading Mail

15
Reading Mail in Outlook Web Access Light
To view a message, click on the subject of the
message (blue text) in the Mail pane. The message
will then appear in the same window.
16
Reading Mail New message indicator
The Inbox icon on the left is bolded when there
are new messages, and indicates the number of
unread messages. In Outlook, new messages are
bolded and in black.
17
  • Composing Mail

18
Create a new message
Its time to look at writing and sending an
e-mail message using OWA. To create a new
message, click on the New Message tab above the
mail pane.
A mail message window will appear.
19
Use the Address Book to add recipients
There are several different ways to use the
Address Book to locate recipients. One method is
to click on To, Cc, or Bcc.
The Address Book window will appear (as shown at
right).
20
Use the Address Book to add recipients
To add someone, select the check box next to
their name, then click To, Cc, or Bcc to add them
to your message.
In this case the sender checked Bob Watt and then
clicked the To box. Then the sender checked Carol
Stoner and then clicked the Cc box.
21
Use the Address Book to add recipients
You can scroll through the Address Book by using
the blue directional arrows.
When you have selected all your recipients,
select Close or Done to take you back to the
email you are composing.
22
Use the Address Book to add recipients
Another method for searching for users is by
searching the Address Book. You can search by
first name or last name
To search for a user, type the name of the person
you are looking for, and click on the Search
button or the Enter key.
23
Use the Address Book to add recipients
Once you are able to find a user in the Address
Book, you can click on the box by that users
name and then any of the To -gt Cc-gt or Bcc -gt
buttons to add the recipient to the mail
message. The recipients name will then appear in
the selected box.
24
Use the Address Book to add recipients
If in Gaggle you were used to simply typing the
first letter of a recipients name and their
email address appeared in a selection box you can
do the same with OWA. The first time you send an
email to that person you will need to manually
type in the full email address and then send the
message.
The next time you go to the To box and type in
the first letter of that persons name, the
address will show in the selection box. You can
select the address. Please note that in order for
the name to appear in the Cc or Bcc boxes, it
would need to be manually typed in those boxes as
well.
25
About Signatures
Do you use a personal e-mail signature at the end
of your email messages? You can create signatures
for use in Outlook as well.
A signature is a block of text automatically
appended at the bottom of an e-mail message. It
usually contains your name, title, organization,
and business contact information.
26
Creating your signature
To create a signature, click on the Options
button on the top right-hand corner of the
Outlook Web Access page.
27
Creating your signature
To add a Signature, click on Messaging, then add
a signature in the text box below. Once
complete, click the Save button.
Your signature will automatically append to the
end of your email messages.
28
Include an attachment
Its easy to attach a file to an email.
You can attach a file by clicking on the
Attachments link on the mail toolbar. Then you
simply browse for and attach your document as you
did with Gaggle.
29
Logout of Outlook Web Access
To Logout of the system, click on the Logout
button on the top right-hand corner of the
screen.
30
Next Steps
