History of Weblogs

• Weblogs were given their name by Jorn Barger in
  December 1997
• Jesse James Garrett began compiling a list of
  other sites like his
• 23 weblogs in existence in early 1999
• Eatonweb Portal
• Pitas launched the first free blog building tool

Filtering Weblogs

• the original blogs were link-driven sites that
  were mixtures of links, commentary, personal
  thoughts, and essays.
• provide a valuable filtering function to those
  who surf the web.
• provide links to material that the average web
  surfer might not see because they dont have the
  time to stray from the contemporary news sites
  and portals.

Journal Weblogs

• In these blogs, the blogger records his or her
  personal thoughts.
• Examples What happened at work today, plans for
  the weekend, etc.
• full blown conversations have sprung up between
  bloggers referencing each others thoughts in
  their own blogs.

Benefits and Perspectives

• by simply writing down whatever is on the
  bloggers mind he will be confronted by his own
  thoughts and opinions
• persons that have no coding knowledge can express
  themselves with the countless others on the web
