  • At OST 05-4, Dr. Annette Ruge, Chair of Oxygen
    Steering Group (OSG) debriefed on the history of
    A-NPA-OPS 32 Oxygen, inviting the OST to agree on
    the way forward, in light of the options
    identified by the OSG.
  • Four options had been identified by the OSG,
    regarding the future of A-NPA-OPS 32.

  • Options identified by the OSG
  • To continue the work considering specific routes
    only or
  • To consider exemptions from the requirements for
    specific routes or
  • Not to amend JAR-OPS 1.770 but consider changes
    to 1.760 or
  • Not to amend the oxygen provisions in JAR-OPS.

  • Following Dr. Ruges presentation at the OST
    05-4, three actions arose
  • a) OST members to submit written comments on the
    four options, to OSG Chairperson by 23 Dec. 2005,
    with a decision on the A-NPAs future to be made
    at OST 06-1. (Two comments received - from Airbus
    and CAA Poland).
  • b) EASA OST rep. to debrief on EASA study into
    pax. fainting at OST 06-1(The study has not been
    completed, yet).
  • c) NAAs and FAA OST reps. to debrief on
    exemptions regarding oxygen rules at OST 06-1.
    (Not applicable as the matter was deferred) .

  • Comments from Airbus and CAA Poland
  • The comments received constitute themselves into
    two more options to be added to the four options
    already identified by the OSG
  • Airbus Transfer A-NPA-OPS 32 to EASA, with a
    recommendation for inclusion into the EASA
    rulemaking Agenda.
  • CAA Poland Amend JAR-OPS 1.760 and 1.770 to
    become fully compliant with the ICAO standards.

  • Due to urgent matters on the Agenda of OST
  • 06-1, the matter was deferred to OST O6-3 (30th
    May-2nd June 2006).

  • Summary of options
  • At present, the following options need to be
    considered by the OST
  • To continue the work considering specific routes
    only or
  • To consider exemptions from the requirements for
    specific routes or
  • Not to amend JAR-OPS 1.770 but consider changes
    to 1.760 or
  • Not to amend the oxygen provisions in JAR-OPS or
  • 5. Transfer A-NPA-OPS 32 to EASA, with a
    recommendation for inclusion into the EASA
    rulemaking Agenda or
  • Amend JAR-OPS 1.760 and 1.770 to become fully
    compliant with the ICAO standards.
