The business of holiday rentals has been
one of the most natural areas to migrate to the
world of e-commerce the ability to search for
and view lots of properties makes it a
significant improvement on whatever it was that
people used to do in the past (magazines?
vacation agencies? brochures?), and that has
helped the online rentals industry to expand.
One area that hasnt evolved very much,
however, is the activity holidays market
oftentimes, the only choice through traditional
holiday rental sites is relaxing beach apartments
and pamper weekends, until now.

Holiday Booked, part of a UK brand, is tackling
the rentals market with something new the
concept of targeting sports activities tailored
within a holiday rental package. The company
specialises in outdoor and indoor activity breaks
in the UK and also worldwide, their website allow
users to narrow results by their ideal activity
or sport, which no other e-commerce holiday
rental website allows. Websites like holiday
lettings and home away, allow visitors to search
by accommodation, location and number of rooms.
However, Holiday Booked users can specify a
particular sport or activity and then narrows
results. This avoids wading through spa weekends
and sleepy cottages and puts a focus on just
adventure cycling, or apartments near a good surf
break.   The activity holiday market is now
worth over 30 Billion worldwide and over 3
million independent sports providers offer
holidays and breaks. Yet the options for activity
suppliers to advertise to a specific sports
audience remain limited. Many providers feel
trapped by online booking sites that take large
fees from their earnings or forced to spend high
amounts through Google ad words and campaigns to
get noticed.

Holiday Booked fills the gap between the existing
options and makes it easier for the activity
provider to market their services to as many of
the millions of potential sports enthusiasts on
the Internet as possible.
The company already works closely with adventure
companies to bring all types of adventure
holidays under one roof, surf holiday, walking
holidays and wilderness travel, they are all
there on the website and can be booked directly.
Sports providers can list their services for
free. A recent
survey from Home Away, found that some 83 of
property managers are dissatisfied with current
commission charges introducing a free listing
option together with a low commission, taken only
on confirmed bookings was the answer, stated
Holiday Booked founder, Tony Handley.

In the early days, the site was geared to
individual sports coaches with separately
advertised accommodation, and for now it is still
working with these individual coaches and
businesses.We are still keen to work with the
smaller concerns like, activity centres and
property owners, Handley says. Longer term the
idea will be to collaborate sports activity
centres with locally sourced accommodation to
create an activity holidays package. We have the
ambition to have our very own property management
system for the smaller players in the activity
market who dont need all the services that the
more expensive management systems offer, we will
do the hard work for them, he says.

The company simply charges a 10 fee for
every confirmed and paid booking. "Large upfront
fees, annual contracts and cancellation penalties
are prohibitive for holiday rental owners and
activity suppliers. You only pay us when we get
you a booking It's risk-free and it's a fraction
of what you'd pay otherwise. It's that simple,"
said founder Tony Handley.

"We're offering a completely new option,
something that activity holiday suppliers have
never seen before. There is no lengthy contract
or tie-in. The supplier is free to continue
marketing their activities and holidays as they
always have. We simply increase their bookings to
a wider sports orientated audience. Its as
simple as that. We allow independent holiday
rentals to advertise to our sports focused
audience if the property and location is right
for an activity holiday. By allowing independent
apartment owners to advertise alongside the
larger travel agents, we provide travellers with
the best choice and therefore, best service. This
increases the chances the traveller will book
through us, which means more booked activity
holidays for everyone. We all win. Unlike
competitors, Holiday Booked operates worldwide
and has no restrictions on the geographical
location of its activity holidays, holiday
rentals or owners.
