How to Make a Poster (Arial 108) Poster Size 24 X
35 (Arial Bold, 88 pt)
  • PowerPoint is great for making posters.
  • Look at the posters on the walls for design
ideas and font choices. Select your font for
    legibility.
  • In PowerPoint, work from this template or create
    a fully blank new presentation.
  • Use Page Setup and choose the custom slide
size. Typical poster measurements will be either
    24 x 35 or 35 x 48. The board on which we
mount posters comes standard in these two sizes.
(We use 35 so that there are no problems with
the borders when the poster is printed on the 36
    wide printer/plotter paper.)
  • Remember that a poster should contain only a
small amount of information. Choose a few
specific ideas you want to convey. Organize the
prose carefully, and dont be too wordy. Posters
should be visual, so a picture or two might help
    illustrate your ideas.
  • Run Spell Check AND have someone thoroughly
proofread your work before it is printed.

Be aware of how your images will look against the
posters background. Notice how the top bunny
blends in with the white background. Placing the
image on a black backdrop makes it stand out.
This type is Arial 36 point (not bold).
This is Times New Roman 44 point type. Sometimes
images look better surrounded by a dark or light
border. To do this, make a box of the desired
color and center the image over it. Commands for
move to front, etc., are located with the Draw
tools (lower left corner in PowerPoint). The
image to the left is a clip art city on a light
blue background centered over a black box.
