6 St Pancras Welfare Trust
The St Pancras Welfare Trust provides an
invaluable safety net for those who have nowhere
else to turn in times of need or sickness. The
area of benefit includes some of the most densely
populated parts of Camden including Kings Cross,
Somers Town, Camden Town and Kentish Town all
areas with high indices of social deprivation.

We make small grants in the form of cash or
vouchers to make life a bit easier and to give a
helping hand on the way to recovery

- The Trust was established in 1971 following a
review of ancient parochial charities by the
Charity Commissioners - The Trusts guidelines are more suitable for
dealing with the needs of modern society.

convalescent, disabled, handicapped or infirm.

14Camelot Trust
- In 1992 the trustees assumed responsibility for
the running of the Camelot Trust, a charity
established in 1969 by Mrs Neel, a resident of
Kentish Town, to provide holidays for
disadvantaged children living in the area of
benefit.
15Trustees
- There are 8 trustees
- One ex-officio The Mayor of Camden
- Three nominated trustees appointed by Camden
Council (not necessarily Councillors), serving
for four years - Four co-opted trustees persons residing or
carrying on business in or near the area of
benefit, serving for five years
16Trustees Meetings
- The trustees meet quarterly to
- Appoint a chair at the first meeting of the year
- Review the quarterly performance of the trust
fund - Consider the Secretarys report
- Allocate funds for distribution
- Consider applications
17Annual Meeting
- Held in September to consider the annual report
and accounts - Discuss the management of the trust fund with the
fund managers - Make a risk assessment.
18Finances
- The trust fund is managed by UBS AG, London
branch, and invested in a mixture of stocks and
bonds to produce a yield that reflects the
Trusts need for income and long-term capital
growth. - The managers performance is judged against an
agreed index.
19Sources of funds
- In 1971 the trust had assets worth about 900.00
- The Trust is entitled to receive one third of the
net income of the Estate Charity of Eleanor
Palmer in the mid 1970s the Trust received
250,000 as its share of the proceeds of the sale
of one of their properties. - In 2004 the trust fund was valued at 723,000,
producing a yield of about 3.85 - Management and administrative costs amount to
approximately 17.
20Fundraising
- The trust is a grant making trust and does not
have explicit powers to seek funds - However, it does have the power to accept
donations - The natural source of additional funding is via
legacies and to this effect information leaflets
have been sent to all firms of solicitors in the
borough - A donations page is maintained on the website
- And the Trust is registered with various
initiatives run by the Charities Aid Foundation,
including payroll giving (Give as You Earn).
21Links with other agencies
- The remit of the trust is to work in liaison with
Social Services and other agencies who work with
potential beneficiaries - Applications are received from all departments in
Social Services - Other applications are received from health
professionals, schools and more than 50 voluntary
organisations
22How to apply
- Applicants must complete and sign an application
form to comply with Data Protection legislation - All applications must be supported by a letter
from a Social Worker or other bona fide
organisation (CAB, etc.) - Applications can be made on-line by approved
sponsoring agencies
23Grants
- A comprehensive database is maintained and all
applications are cross checked - Grants are one-off
- The trustees cannot consider grants for
educational purposes - Grants are in the range 150 - 300
24The future
- New co-optative trustees will be sought by
advertising locally with the aim of increasing
the pool of specialist and local knowledge - New sponsoring agencies will be sought in order
to ensure that all sections of the community
benefit from the Trust's work.
