St Pancras Welfare Trust
  • Caring in the Heart of Camden

3
St Pancras Welfare Trust
  • Imagine having no-one to help you in times of
    need or sickness
  • Who would you turn to?
  • Who would offer a helping hand?

4
St Pancras Welfare Trust
  • Imagine
  • If a family of four is trying to live on 187
    per week
  • If a pensioner is trying to live on 109 per
    week
  • If a young person is to be housed in a bare,
    run down flat
  • If a lone, single parent has a child with
    serious illness and special needs

5
St Pancras Welfare Trust
  • Who do they turn to when they need
  • Shoes and clothing?
  • T o replace a worn out bed?
  • A fridge, cooker or basic furniture?
  • A short respite to relieve the pressure?
  • The only answer for many people is the St
    Pancras Welfare Trust

St Pancras Welfare Trust
The St Pancras Welfare Trust provides an
invaluable safety net for those who have nowhere
else to turn in times of need or sickness. The
area of benefit includes some of the most densely
populated parts of Camden including Kings Cross,
Somers Town, Camden Town and Kentish Town all
areas with high indices of social deprivation.
7
St Pancras Welfare Trust
We make small grants in the form of cash or
vouchers to make life a bit easier and to give a
helping hand on the way to recovery
8
St Pancras Welfare Trust
  • The Trust was established in 1971 following a
review of ancient parochial charities by the
    Charity Commissioners
  • The Trusts guidelines are more suitable for
dealing with the needs of modern society.

Trusts need for income and long-term capital
    growth.
  • The managers performance is judged against an
    agreed index.

19
Sources of funds
  • In 1971 the trust had assets worth about 900.00
  • The Trust is entitled to receive one third of the
net income of the Estate Charity of Eleanor
Palmer in the mid 1970s the Trust received
250,000 as its share of the proceeds of the sale
    of one of their properties.
  • In 2004 the trust fund was valued at 723,000,
producing a yield of about 3.85
  • Management and administrative costs amount to
    approximately 17.

20
Fundraising
  • The trust is a grant making trust and does not
have explicit powers to seek funds
  • However, it does have the power to accept
    donations
  • The natural source of additional funding is via
legacies and to this effect information leaflets
have been sent to all firms of solicitors in the
    borough
  • A donations page is maintained on the website
  • And the Trust is registered with various
initiatives run by the Charities Aid Foundation,
including payroll giving (Give as You Earn).

21
Links with other agencies
  • The remit of the trust is to work in liaison with
Social Services and other agencies who work with
    potential beneficiaries
  • Applications are received from all departments in
    Social Services
  • Other applications are received from health
professionals, schools and more than 50 voluntary
    organisations

22
How to apply
  • Applicants must complete and sign an application
form to comply with Data Protection legislation
  • All applications must be supported by a letter
from a Social Worker or other bona fide
    organisation (CAB, etc.)
  • Applications can be made on-line by approved
    sponsoring agencies

23
Grants
  • A comprehensive database is maintained and all
    applications are cross checked
  • Grants are one-off
  • The trustees cannot consider grants for
    educational purposes
  • Grants are in the range 150 - 300

24
The future
  • New co-optative trustees will be sought by
advertising locally with the aim of increasing
the pool of specialist and local knowledge
  • New sponsoring agencies will be sought in order
to ensure that all sections of the community
    benefit from the Trust's work.
