Title: A Brief Overview: The Feathered Dinosaurs

1
A Brief Overview The Feathered Dinosaurs
  • By Henry Winston Ball

2
The Arch-Type of the Birds
  • In 1861, German paleontologists discovered in a
lake bed the remains of an animal that was a
fossilized remains of a dinosaur with feathers.
  • Archaeopteryx or Urvogel the Original Bird was
thought to be the first bird and from its
descents the clan of birds started to take flight
    from this Jurassic fossil.

3
The Feathered Boom
  • It was in the mid-1990s when a large discovery
took place in the fossil remains of China.
    Feathered non-avian dinosaurs.
  • And once more, these feathered dinosaurs belong
all in the same group of theropod dinosaurs known
as Coelurosauria, which include groups of animals
    such as raptors, therizinosaurs, tyrannosaurs,
    and eventually true birds.

4
Evidence of Flight
  • With feathers, it was believed that they evolved
as modified scales as most things evolve on
    animals, for sexual mating.
  • Over time though, some animals-such as a personal
favorite, Microraptor, could glide. And once
more, it was a four-winged dinosaur that lived in
the trees and took to the wing around the ancient
    Cretaceous forests.

5
The Color of the feathers
  • In one interesting specimen of a feathered
dinosaur, the clues to color is present.
Paleontologists believe that the color of the
dinosaur is evident do to the discovery of well
    preserved microscopic cell structures.
  • With this evidence, the dinosaur known as
Sinornithosaurus maybe the only dinosaur that we
    know its colors.
