hazardous material regulations in Title 49 CFR

6When Do the Rules Apply
- Whenever hazardous materials are transported by
highway, air, rail or water. For example - Shipment by common carrier
- Transport by a private carrier to a job site
- Anywhere US DOT or NRC rules are in effect
7When Training is Required
- Initial training is required for each new
employee or employee who changes job functions
within 90 days. - Until training is completed, employees can only
perform hazmat functions under direct supervision
of trained person. - Refresher training is required every 2 years (per
IATA).
8Who Must Be Trained?
- Any employee who directly affects hazmat
transportation safety, including any person who - loads, unloads or handles hazmat
- tests, repairs, modifies, marks or certifies
packages as meeting hazmat requirements. - prepares hazmat for transportation
- operates a vehicle carrying hazmat
- is responsible for safety of transporting hazmat

file for 1 year from shipment date
