Visitors
  • Please join us in welcoming James Jenkins II,
    principal of Satchel Paige Comprehensive
    Community School. He will discuss the 100th
    birthday celebration of the schools namesake,
    Negro Leagues baseball hero Satchel Paige, on
    Friday, July 11, 2008. Activities include
  • Cupcakes and ice cream at lunch
  • A baseball game during the PE period
  • A program in the gym at 230 p.m.
  • Students and staff will wear red and white
    clothing and baseball caps, the Kansas City
    Monarchs team colors.

Central Highs Muna Leequalifies for 2008
Olympics
  • Muna Lee, a 2000 graduate of
    Central High School, has qualified for the 2008
    Olympic Games for the United States track team in
    the 100 and 200 meters. Lee was a top
    Interscholastic League sprinter who also ran
    track at Louisiana State University.

Neighborhood fairs
  • The Grand Finale Neighborhood Celebration will be
    held from 2 to 6 p.m., on Saturday, July 19,
    2008. on the campus of Garfield Elementary.
    Families and community members are invited to
    enjoy games, carnival food, clowns, magic, moon
    walks, and to learn about District programs and
    activities.

Healthy Back to School Event
  • The Kansas City, Missouri School District, in
    conjunction with Heart to Heart International,
    will be hosting a Healthy Back to School Event
    from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2008.
    Children ages 12-19 will be able to receive FREE
    physicals and immunizations at the
    Afrikan-Centered Education Collegium Campus.

Frazier Gallery to Host Art Exhibition for
District Staff 
  • The Robert Frazier Gallery of Art will host the
    opening reception for the exhibition, To Create
    a Better World Artists as Educators, featuring
    Kansas City, Missouri School District (KCMSD) art
    teachers and staff, current and emeritus from 6
    to 9 p.m., on Friday, July 11, 2008.
