Title: Destruction of the Worlds Rainforests
1Destruction of the Worlds Rainforests
- By Justin Jones
- September 14,2005
2how could we help prevent the destruction
- One could help prevent destruction by not buying
furniture products made from rosewood, mahogany,
ebony, and teakwood, because they most likely
came from the rainforests.
3Cause Of Destruction
- The cause of the rainforests destruction is that
the global population has tripled this century
and will continue to grow for the next 50 years
particularly in developed countries.
4How We Are Effected
- We are effected by the destruction of the rain
forests. - In that we cant look at their beauty. the cutting
and destruction of the forests also changes Aledo
or reflectivity of the Earths surface.
5Some Animals That Live In The Rainforests
- Gorilla
- Tigers
- Iguanas
- Anaconda
- Jaguar
- Bats
- Monkeys
- Parrot
6How animals are affected
- Some animals become extinct or they become
endangered because their habitant is destroyed by
all the destruction .
7Destruction In The Amazon
- The environment ministry said 26,000 sq km of
forest were chopped down in the 12 months prior
to August 2004. - The figure is the second highest on record, 6
higher than the previous 12 months.
8The Major Rainforests
- Olympic Rainforests
- Rainforests of central America
- Amazon
- Rainforests of Southeast Asia
- Congo River Basin Rainforests
- Madagascar Rainforest
9How is Destruction Affecting The Earths Climate
- The eradication of the Amazon Rainforest and
Rainforests around the world are wreaking havoc
on the climate of our Earth. The Amazon is like
a giant heat bump that sends energy and moisture
from the tropics into the cooler high latitudes
it produces climate that we can live in.
10Are there People Living In The rainforests
- We often overlook the millions of people that
live in the rain forests. Did you know that
there are about 50,000,000 tribal people living
in world's rainforests? - These people depend on the forests for their
food and shelter. - As we cut more and more trees and destroy more
and more of the forests, we are also killing
people. - Many native tribes have been exterminated already
because their governments failed to protect them
from logging companies, the mining companies and
the slash and burn farmers
11How are people from different cultrues affected
- The destruction of the World's Rainforests
displaces and destroys the cultures of indigenous
people who inhabit them. Ways of life that have
existed for eons are totally destroyed, disrupted
and up routed. - The cultures we are losing are irreplaceable. In
1500 almost 9 million indigenous people inhabited
the Brazilian Rainforest. Now less than 200,000
remain.
12Will The Destruction Ever Stop
- The most important piece of Rainforests
Destruction information to understand is this - If no action is taken, between 2012 and 2016 the
land area of virgin Rainforests will go below the
critical built-in natural safeguard threshold
providence of 10. - virgin Rainforests area with its 50 species
remaining. So for now no the destruction will not
stop
13Why Do People Destroy The Rainforests
- There is a short answer it's because of money.
- People cut down the trees, sell the wood and used
the land for sugar plantations or building dams
on forest rivers.
14How Much Is the Rainforests Worth
- Rainforests are worth more acre by acre left
standing then used for logging, pasture, or
mining. The tropical rainforest has much more to
offer - economically then just for logging, mining and
land-use. A large percentage, if not most, of
the medicinal industry has been derived from
various tropical plants. - The agricultural industry, also sustained by the
rainforests, allows for the creation of improved
crops and pest controllers through the vast
genetic diversity supplied. - Numerous materials that create a immense majority
of the products we enjoy originated from these
tropical areas.
15Organozations That Have Taken Over The Rainforests
- Most rainforests are cleared by chainsaws,
bulldozers and fires for its timber value and
then are followed by farming and ranching
operations, even by world giants like Mitsubishi
Corporation, Georgia Pacific, Texaco and Unocal.
16Why Save The Rainforests
- rainforest is home to over fifty percent of all
plants and animals on earth. - It is the earth's living lungs it breathes in
carbon dioxide and breathes out oxygen. - Some rainforests are an unexplored frontier, with
all kinds of new animals and even new tribes of
people. - The National Wildlife Federation in 1993 listed
ten reasons why we should save the rainforests
17Ten Reasons Why We Should Save The Rainforests
- People have no right to destroy the rainforests
for their own purposes. - Destroying the forests may change the world's
weather patterns. - The loss of the forests is causing serious
environmental problems such as soil erosion and
water pollution. - Wood products on which the rest of the world
depends may soon become scarce and more
expensive. - Many migrating birds common in North America
depend on rainforest habitats loss of the
rainforest may affect these species. - Cultures of the forests are losing their native
lands. They have a right to live where and how
they want. - There are many rainforest plants and animals that
could help scientists develop new crops,
medicines, and other products. - The strange, exotic and unique species found in
rainforests are a source of inspiration for many
people.  - The forests contain more than 50 of all plant
and animals species in the world. Destroying the
forests will destroy these species forever. - There is still so much to discover within the
rainforest, even a possible cure for cancer. We
can't destroy what nature has given to us.
18Intreasting facts About The Rainforests
- An area of rainforest is the size of a football
field - Giant bamboo plants can grow 9in in a day
- The trees in the rainforests are so densely
packed that rain falling on the canopy can take
10 min to reach the ground - In the moist rainforests of South America,
sloth's move so slowly that algae are able to
grow in their fur.
