Title: Digital Photography
1Digital Photography
2Introduction To Digital Photography
- Photography is a process of producing images of
objects on photosensitive surfaces. It is divided
into two types - Film Photography
- Digital Photography
Digital Photography uses an electronic sensor to
record the image as a piece of electronic data
and is stored for later reproduction. The device
generally used for digital photography is a
Digital Camera. (Definition)
In the course of this presentation, I will
introduce the concept of - Digital Photography
through the medium of Digital Camera and mark out
its advantages over film photography.
3Basic Features Of Digital Camera
- Audio/Video Recording
- Built-in and Removable Memory
- Electronic Flash
- Multi-Functionality
- and Connectivity
4Distinguishing Components Of Digital Cameras
- SENSORS Digital Cameras consist of two main
types of sensors - - CMOS semiconductor sensor
- Charge-Coupled device (CCD)
- SLOTS and PORTS Digital Cameras usually consist
of two types of ports and one slot - USB (Universal Serial Bus) port
- Firewire port
- Memory card slot (For Additional Memory)
- LCD DISPLAY Digital Cameras are equipped with
small LCD screens to aid the camera user for
taking photographs/video recording with maximum
ease. It also helps them in viewing the media
captured previously.
5File Types and Data Storage Formats
- Exchangeable image file format (Exif) is a set of
file formats specified for use in Digital
Cameras. The most common file formats are as
follows - JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
- TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)
- RAW (Best Quality of image captured)
- In addition to the internal memory that is
provided in the digital cameras there are memory
cards available in the market for additional
storage purposes. The various cards available are
- MMC (Multi Media Card)
- SD (Secure Digital Card)
- XD (XD-Picture Card)
- Memory Stick
- CF (Compact Flash Card)
- (Various Memory cards)
6Performance Metrics
- The quality of a digital image or video vary
largely from camera to camera. This is due to the
fact that the results are based on various
factors, such as the - - Pixel Count Usually more the number of pixels,
better the quality and vice versa. - Format of the captured media The RAW format
gives the best capture result as opposed to JPEG
and TIFF file formats. - Sensor used to capture media The usage of either
CMOS or CCD sensor makes a difference in the
quality of media produced. - Type of Lens Apart from the pixel count, the
result - of the image is based mainly on the type of lens
used. - Resolution, one of the key factors in
determining the - quality of the image is based on the type of
lens used. - (Digital Camera Basics)

8Conclusion
- Digital photography has the following
- advantages over film photography
- You are able to view to view the images taken on
your PC immediately at no additional cost, and
subsequently print the photographs you want to -
thereby saving a lot of unnecessary costs. - Digital cameras of the same photographic features
as of the film cameras, are more compact and
slim and thereby it has a higher demand in the
market. (Compact and Light) - Due to the existence of various storage medias
available for Digital Cameras, the digital
photographs can be stored in large numbers
thereby it is more favored by the users.
