terrorists here livin'In the USA, the big
CIAThe Bloods and The Crips and the KKKBut if
you only have love for your own raceThen you
only leave space to discriminateAnd to
discriminate only generates hateAnd when you
hate then you're bound to get irate, yeahMadness
is what you demonstrateAnd that's exactly how
anger works and operatesMan, you gotta have love
just to set it straightTake control of your mind
and meditateLet your soul gravitate to the love,
y'all, y'all

The Black Eyed Peas
The Black Eyed Peas are the best selling hip hop
group today. They have toured more countries than
any other artist. This shows their worldwide
appeal. The group is composed of Will.I.Am, Apl.
De. Ap, Taboo, and Fergie. The group exploded
onto the scene in 2003 with their smash album,
Elephunk. Their first worldwide hit, Where Is
The Love?, topped over ten charts all over the
world. The Black Eyed Peas date back to 1988 when
Will.IAm and Apl.De.Ap began performing around
the Los Angeles area. They were signed to
Eazy-Es record label, Ruthless Records, as the
Atban Klann. After Eazy-Es death they evolved
and changed their name to The Black Eyed Pods and
then eventually to The Black Eyed Peas. They then
signed to Interscope Records but didnt gain
mainstream attention until Fergie, a dynamic
female vocalist, joined the group. From then on
the platinum albums and Grammy awards kept on
coming (Dipdive).

The Big CIA
This refers to corruption of the Center
Intelligence Agency (CIA), which is a part of the
United States government. CIA corruption includes
warrantless spying on U.S. citizen and covering
up drug trading for their own profit. The CIA was
tapping into unsuspecting citizens phones and
listening to their private conversations. There
has been a history of corruption from the CIA
including the disinformation about the
assassination of President John F. Kennedy. While
the CIA does some good they also do some wrong.
The Black Eyed Peas reference this (Stich).
BACK
14
The Bloods
The Bloods are a street gang in Los Angeles,
California. The Black Eyed Peas refer to the
Bloods branching out across the U.S. The Bloods
have had violent encounters with many different
gangs including the Crips. They are identified by
their red color and worn by their members. They
are also identified by their distinct gang
symbols which consists of hand signs. Blood
members have also been found in the U.S.
military. The Bloods have been apart of organized
crime which includes robberies, murders, and drug
trafficking. The Black Eyed Peas wanted to give
more recognition to the wrong which has been
occurring for over three decades (Phelan).
BACK
15
The Crips
The Crips originated in Los Angeles, California
in the late 1960s. They are one of the largest,
oldest, and most infamous street gangs the Los
Angeles area. Like the Bloods, the Crips are
involved in gang activity like murders, drug
dealing, and extortion. They rival the Bloods and
have been in gang warfare for many decades. If
the Crips ever become more structured, they could
become a more serious problem in disturbing the
peace. The Black Eyed Peas are trying to get the
message out to stop gang violence before a lot of
innocent civilians get killed (Lewis).
BACK
16
KKK
The KKK, Ku Klux Klan, are a racist,
anti-Semetic group that uses violence to reach
their goals of racial segregation. They also
believe in white supremacy. They first emerged
after the Civil War and were only against African
Americans and people who helped them. Later their
anger and violence grew to minority groups as
well as Jews. The Black Eyed Peas talk about
trying to extinguish this type of racist violence
that still lives in the United States today. If
less people lived in fear, then there would be
less tension between different races. The KKK now
has over 5,000 members all throughout the U.S.
They are strongest in the southern states (ADL).
BACK
17
Discriminate
Discrimination is still around today even though
laws and bills have been passed to ensure
equality throughout the United States. Some would
say that discrimination is more blatant in the
world that we live in. People discriminated
against have either just accepted the fact that
they are going to be treated unfairly or others
simply demand respect. Discrimination goes back
to when the first men ever walked the earth.
Somebody discriminated against another for
certain handicap and thats how it all began.
Discrimination can only fully be extinguished
parents decide to teach their children at an
early age about equality (Constantin).

Act like what they see in the cinema
These lyrics are talking about children imitating
the behavior that they see in the movies. More
specifically, they are imitating violence. This
may make them more aggressive and put others in
danger. If they see Brad Pitt or George Clooney
doing something violent, then they might think
its cool to copy those actions. This is much
like how our pop culture makes smoking look
cool. Now advertisements are made to counteract
that. In the future, if this behavior gets out of
hand, advertisements may have to be made to
prohibit these types of acts (Peters).

things that'll bring you trauma Rhyme Scheme
This is an a a a a rhyme scheme. It is very
simple but it gets the message across. Usually,
in hip hop music, you will see this type of rhyme
scheme. This only has one rhyme scheme operating
through most of the whole song except the chorus.

we try to stop terrorism Flashback
This flashback takes the listener back to 9/11
and the horrible attacks that occurred on United
States soil. This attack was from terrorists from
foreign soil. Terrorists hijacked commercial
airplanes and flew them into government buildings
like the Twin Tours and Pentagon. These lyrics
talk about trying to halt these type of attacks
and protecting the nation.

Where is the love (The love)Where is the love
(The love)Where is the loveThe love, the love
Repetition
The Love is repeated to emphasize a point.
Basically this is stating that there is enough
violence throughout the world and we need to
counteract it with love and peace. To get their
point across, the Black Eyed Peas repeat this
phrase. It also makes a catchy chorus for the
listener to sing-a-long with.

It just ain't the same, always unchangedNew days
are strange, is the world insaneIf love and
peace is so strongWhy are there pieces of love
that don't belong - Theme
These lyrics have a timeless and universal theme.
It makes the listener feel shameful that people
cannot set aside their differences for a peaceful
life. Wars and violence have been going on since
the beginning of time and they happen everywhere.
That makes this statement recognizable to all
races, ages, and religions.

That's all we got Mood/Tone (of whole song)
The Black Eyed peas have a serious tone
throughout the song. They do convey sad and
hopeful emotion through parts of the song. It is
meant to persuade the listener to change the
world even if it only makes a small impact. The
chorus gives a cry for help to reestablish a
better world. Overall the song is to make you
think about what is happening around you.
