UTB/TSC Compliance Program
  • The University of Texas at Brownsville and
    Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) Compliance
    Program is intended to demonstrate the absolute
    commitment of the University to the highest
    standards of ethics and compliance with all
    applicable laws, policies, rules, and
    regulations. Ethical conduct and compliance are
    personal responsibilities, and each employee will
    be held accountable for his or her conduct.

The Rule
The use, distribution, sale, or possession of
illegal drugs or the unauthorized use or
possession of alcohol in the workplace will not
be tolerated.

Whats OK?
  • If authorized, alcohol may be used at a UTB/TSC
    function or site, unless it adversely affects job
    performance.
  • Prescription and over-the-counter medications may
    be used as needed and appropriate. Employees are
    responsible for making sure that any effects from
    the use of such medications will not impair their
    ability to perform assigned work in a safe manner.

Whats not OK?
  • Using, possessing, or selling alcohol or illegal
    drugs during work hours or on UTB/TSC property,
    including in vehicles used for UTB/TSC business.
    (Note At certain UTB/TSC functions/events,
    limited use of alcohol is authorized.)
  • Alcohol and drug use outside of regular working
    hours is still not acceptable if it adversely
    affects job performance.
  • Distributing any prescription drug to any
    individual other than the person for whom the
    drug was prescribed.

What can happen?
  • Bringing alcohol or drugs onto the premises of
    the institution,
  • Using alcohol or drugs, having alcohol or drugs
    in your possession, or
  • Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs
    while on UTB premises

Can result in disciplinary action, including
dismissal.

  • An employee who unlawfully manufactures, sells,
    distributes, possesses or uses a controlled
    substance in or on premises or property owned or
    controlled by UTB/TSC, regardless of whether such
    activity results in the imposition of a penalty
    under a criminal statute, will be subject to
    appropriate disciplinary action

    assistance or rehabilitation program or both.
