Polycom - connection

Polycom Start Up
  • This is the page after the view is boot up and in
    ready mode
  • Press the red central button on the remote
    control to make call
  • Use arrow direction keys to move around the icons
  • The TV shows the video captured by the camera
  • Press control panel menu button will go back to
    this menu

  • Press the red right arrow button to move to icon
    system info
  • Press the red center button to select and go into
    System Info

  • Press red right arrow button 2 times to move to
    admin setup
  • Go back to menu by moving to icon menu and
    press center red button, or press menu button
    on remote control

  • Password will be asked if it is set
  • Move to icon LAN to configure basic IP
    connectivity

  • LAN/Intranet is essential for making IP video
    call
  • H.323 is for making multi-party video call
  • Press red center button to go to LAN/intranet
    page

  • Go to LAN Intranet menu for IP configuration
  • If Polycom is behind Firewall/NAT (i.e. Polycom
    is in internal network and configured with
    private IP address ), go to Firewall/LAN
    connection

Warning beware of the IP conflict (duplicated
IP) !
  • Host name assign a host name for polycom
  • Optional, use WINS to resolve the hostname
  • DHCP obtain address automatically
  • IP address Global or private IP address
  • DNS server can accept max. 3 entries
  • Default gateway gateway to the Internet
  • Subnet Mask define size of of the subnet
  • WINS server optional, if name is resolved by
    WINS

Polycom LAN setting
  • Press key on the remote control to go to here
  • By default, LAN Speed is set to Auto
  • For some switches or hubs that fail to negotiate
    a 100M full duplex connection, configure it
    explicitly

Polycom H.323
  • Configure H.323 and related E.164 information if
    making Multi-point video call

Polycom H.323 Setup
  • Enter setup menu for E.164 number
  • E.164 is a unique identifier, it acts like UIN in
    ICQ.
  • Each user will be assigned a E.164 ID for
    multiparty video conference

  • Enter the H.323 name in the space, it is NOT
    necessary to be same as the login ID
  • Enter the assigned E.164 number

  • Go back and select icon Gateway Gatekeeper

Polycom Gateway Gatekeeper
  • Tips press red right arrow button to enter .
  • Enter H.323 system name
  • Enter E.164 Number
  • If Polycom is configured as point-to-point video
    call, select Use Gatekeeper Off
  • If Multipoint, select Specify
  • If Specify is selected, enter the assigned
    Gatekeeper IP address
  • No need to enter 1719, it is appended
    automatically

Polycom LAN Intranet
  • Go back to menu LAN and then LAN Intranet
  • Optional, if Polycom is behind Firewall/NAT

Polycom Firewall LAN Connection
  • Select Use Fixed ports and open these ports on
    the firewall
  • Select System is Behind a NAT if Polycom is in
    internal network and configured as private IP
  • To enable connection from outside, the firewall
    has to be configured to have a global IP mapped
    to a private IP
  • Enter the mapped global IP in NAT Outside (WAN)
    Address

Polycom User Setup
  • Auto answer auto answer the incoming call
  • Mute auto answer calls auto answer call, but
    mute the mic for higher security
  • PIP Picture-in-picture,
  • Auto PIP on when remote control put up, PIP off
    when put down
  • Far control allow remote end to control camera
  • Backlight compensation use in dim environment

Polycom Camera Selection
  • Besides the built-in camera, Polycom supports
    external video and audio input
  • Press near key on the remote control display
    the local camera in full screen
  • Press near key one more time and camera
    selection menu pops up as shown
  • Default source is
  • 1 built-in camera,
  • 2 external camera in S-video interface
  • S-to-RCA adaptor to accept more popular RCA
    interface

Polycom Camera Selection
  • While in the camera selection menu, press red
    right arrow button and move to camera 2 as shown
  • Press red center button to confirm and video will
    be switched to camera 2 (external source)
  • If switching back to camera 1, press near
    button again to show the selection menu again,
    move to left and confirm

Polycom - Address Book
  • Press the menu button on the remote control to
    go back to the main menu
  • Move to Address Book and press red center button

Polycom Address Book
  • Create, edit and delete address
  • Name, IP address, Bandwidth, calling mode will be
    defined in each entry
  • Move up/down arrow button to highlight the name
  • press top green button and call will be made
  • Addresses are sorted in alphabetical order

Polycom make pt-to-pt call
  • Press the top green button on the remote control
    to go to the call menu
  • Move to Speed space and select the desired
    bandwidth, maximum is 768kbps
  • Enter IP address of the remote system and press
    green button to call

Polycom Troubleshooting
  • Network
  • Duplicated IP address ? Correct IP, subnet mask,
    default gateway ?
  • Ping the host to verify the connectivity, make
    sure it can reach the multipoint server
  • Multipoint setting
  • E.164 ID, gatekeeper setting, successful
    registered to the gatekeeper ?
  • Video
  • Cable connection to TV
  • Video selection choose the correct video source
    ?
  • Audio
  • Microphone connected ?
  • Microphone is NOT muted. Mic. with red light ON
    is MUTE
