Corsica in the Mediterranean. -When the
revolution broke out he was a 20 year old
lieutenant. -He overthrew the French
government -In 1804, he named himself emperor.

-He ran a plebiscite, in which voters voted yes
or no on an issue. -He modernized finance,
regulated the economy to control prices, made a
system of public schools strictly ran by the
government, built a system of roads and canals,
and encouraged new industry. -He created a new
law called the Napoleonic code.

How Napoleon lost power

-Russia, Britain, Austria, and Prussia, all
became allies to conquer France. -Napoleon
abdicated. -Napoleon escaped exile and returned
to France to become emperor again. -He was
forced back into exile on St. Helena, an island
in the south Atlantic, this time he would never
return.
