CAUSES OF CRIME

• There are many causes of crimes, here is a list
  of some causes and their consequences.
• BOREDOM Boredom can cause small or big crimes
  depending on the kind of person committing them.
  For example if a group of teenagers are bored,
  they may do something stupid like vandalise a car
  or attack someone for no real need. Another
  problem which can be caused by boredom is that of
  JOY RIDING, this can be very dangerous and could
  take other peoples lives and even theirs.
• JEALOUSY Jealousy is another problem that can
  cause crime. Jealousy could be because someone
  you know owns a bigger house than you so you may
  feel tempted to vandalise it or attack or abuse
  the owner. It may also be because someone has
  stolen a valuable possession whether it be a bag
  or maybe your girlfriend. All of this can cause
  jealousy and crime. Some jealousy can have large
  consequences and can take over the mind and even
  provoke murderous thoughts.

CAUSES OF CRIME

• RACISM - Racism is a crime in its own right,
  yet it can also be the cause for other crimes
  such as ASSAULTS and THREATS. This happens
  because the racist people believe that they have
  to make the lives of those different to them,
  harder to live happily in.
• EXTREMIST RELIGIONISTS Extremist Religionists
  dangerous people because they could become the
  cause of crime, the main type TERRORISM
• HATRED Hatred can cause people to VANDALISE, or
  commit ARSON against the person, in an act to
  revenge them.
• PEER PRESSURE This occurs when the pressure
  exerted by a peer group encouraging a person to
  change their attitude, behaviour and/or morals.
  This results in people trying to do bad things to
  fit in. Crimes caused by peer pressure are THEFT,
  RACISM ASBOs and VANDALISM.

CAUSES OF CRIME

• UNEMPLOYMENT - Unemployment can cause many
  different crimes such as vandalism, theft,
  shoplifting, and robbery. The most important of
  these is THEFT and SHOPLIFTING, these are most
  important as you would not be bringing in food or
  money so would maybe feel the need to steel it.
  In extreme measures it could cause fraud for the
  more intelligent unemployed, who make money
  different ways.
• ADDICTION Addiction can cause serious crimes.
  It can cause you to harm your body as you cant go
  without a certain substance, e.g. Addiction to
  drugs can cause serious body and health problems
  and you can also be prosecuted and jailed for
  possession of drugs.
• HATRED Hatred can cause people to VANDALISE, or
  comit ARSON against the person, in an act to
  revenge them.

• We think that these crimes, below, are some of
  the most dangerous and serious because when they
  happen they harm more that one person, usually,
  at one time. They are more rare, so police are
  less prepared for when they happen.

Murder

• Murder This is a dangerous crime as it can kill
  someone and maybe harm other people in the area.
  Most murders that happen to women are domestic.
• Solutions to Prevent the Crime-
• Keep potential murders locked up.
• 
  Make sure that social services are

T.F.M.V T.O.M.V

• Theft From Motor Vehicles Precious object can be
  stolen from vehicles when the theft sees the
  oportunity. We think that it is serious, but not
  as serious as T.O.M.V because it is very unlikely
  that anyone would die of this crime, whereas the
  below could cause many injuries.
• Theft Of Motor Vehicles Joy riding and illegal
  car racing are a dangerous crimes as they put the
  people in the car at risk and also the other
  people on the road.
• Solutions to Prevent the Crime-
• Insert crook clocks, and alarms into the cars.
• In car parks, were most car crimes begin, have
• security guards.
• Hide valuable things out of sight.

Terrorism

• Terrorism This is a dangerous crime as it harms
  and may kill the public, e.g. the London
  underground bombings.
• This is a photo of the 9/11 terror attacks,
• which happened because of extreme religionists
• Solutions to Prevent the Crime-
• Make weapons harder to come by, and prevent
  terrorists
• from making their own.
• Give the extremists more rights to voice their
  opinions in
• a civilized way, so that they have nothing to
  fight about.

• Arson Is the voluntarily, and willfully setting
  fire to the building, buildings, or other
  property of another, or of burning one's own
  property for an improper purpose, as to collect
  insurance. It is very serious as it can endanger
  people who may be trapped inside and there is
  also the risk of the fire spreading or people
  inhaling to much smoke.
• Solutions to Prevent the Crime-
• To deterrent the person from committing the
• crime, by inserting more fire extinguishers
• and sprinklers, it may make the criminal think
• twice because they would not cause as much
• damage in the first place, and the reward for
• Them wouldnt be as worthwhile.

• Drugs Cause crimes fuelled by addiction. Richer
  areas are more likely to have drug crimes because
  the youth can afford it. This is a serious crime
  because firstly, it is against the law.
  Secondly, I order to pay for their addiction, as
  it grows, the druggies may turn to stealing from
  partners and others, and thirdly, drugs cause
  irrational behaviour endangering others around
  them, which could result in deaths. Drugs ruin
  lives.
• Drugs also encourage and often are the start of
  another crime Prostitution.
• Solutions to Prevent the Crime-
• When people are caught for others crimes, and are
  found to be addicted to drugs, make police supply
  them with replacement for the drugs (like
  nicotine patches are replacements for cigarettes)
  and slowly wean then of it, while the police
  monitor progress.

• Vandalism in the form of graffiti, keying cars or
  breaking windows, in comparison to other crimes,
  are quite minor. However it does not come without
  its consequences such as fines or people getting
  hurt from the broken glass of the window or even
  an asbo.
• Graphitizing is a form of vandalism
• Solutions to Prevent the
• Crime-
• C.C.T.V cameras to catch
• them out and deter the
• vandals.
• Police patrols.
• Youth clubs and centre to
• keep children off the streets
• and to prevent boredom.

ASBOs

• ASBOS anti social behavior order can follow on
  from vandalism or any minor crimes. They are
  normally issued to teenagers but can be issued to
  adults.

Solutions to Prevent the Crime- Get police and
other people of authority to split up the gangs
on the streets, which will prevent peer pressure,
and, in turn, peer pressure related crimes such
as this one.

• Threats can be considered major or minor crimes.
  Depending on the threats, if they are recurring
  and they are violent they can be taken very
  seriously. If there is only one threat and it is
  quite minor and not violent it may not be taken
  as seriously.
• Solutions to Prevent the Crime-
• Threats often occur because of hatred or racism.
  To prevent the crime, it makes most sense to
  first prevent the cause of the crime from
  becoming large and serious.
• This could be done by teambuilding skills and
  encouragement to treat other equally starting at
  an early age, in schools. Which will make people
  grow up believing in resolving things fairly not
  with threats.

Theft

• Theft can also be considered major or minor.
  Shoplifting a pack of sweets for example may not
  be considered as major as stealing an ipod or
  computer. Re-occurring minor thefts could result
  in a caution or an asbo.
• Solutions to Prevent the Crime-
• Security tags on the quality goods, to stop
  people stealing from shops.
• Shop detectives would
  be able to catch the thief before they got
  away.

Victims of Crime

• As the graph shows, women seem to suffer more as
  victims than men or building and animals. They
  are victims of suicide, stalking and drugs more
  than men. This could be because they are
  insecure, and therefore unhappy. Whereas men can
  often defend themselves better, so people are
  less likely to victimize them, and they to
  suffer.
• Males are only really victims of assaults and
  theft, which could be because the criminals tend
  to be armed when taking part in crimes like that.

Stoke-on-Trent National Average
This graph shows that Stoke-on-Trent has a far
more crime than the national average.
But strangely, this graph implies that
Staffordshire has less crime than average

Places Where Crime Occurs

• This is a map which out lines the most unsafe/
  crime ridden area, the places with the most
  average crime rate, and the safest are in
  Staffordshire.
• This map implies that Kidsgrove is most crime
  ridden place in Staffordshire. The reason for
  its high crime rate could be that it is a
  reasonably poor area, densely populated. It is
  near to Newcastle Under-lyme which is a rich
  area, with shops where there are quality goods
  that could be tempting for them to steel if they
  aree not as well off.

Crime ridden Places
Potteries Shopping Centre We think that the
Potteries Shopping Centre is one of the most
unsafe areas In Stafford. This is because it is
the biggest shopping centre next to The
Arndale, Manchester, and The Bull Ring,
Birmingham, so many people from a large distance
away would come to the Potteries Centre the next
best thing. Because all the people visiting the
shopping centre, there would be a greater chance
of pick-pocketing crimes, and as there are so
many people to hide behind, some of the
pick-pocketing may go un-noticed. The quality
goods in the shops will also attract thieves. The
Potteries Centre is in Hanley, a area with a high
population density, and it is a reasonably poor
area. This is because many of the people are
short of jobs, not from redundancy, just because
there have never been any available since the
mines closed and pottery industry shrunk. Also,
the fact that Hanley has a high population
density proves that its a bad area for crime,
and if its poor there will be more people than
average, trying to shoplift. We have circled ,
on the photo, a C.C.T.V camera. This shows that
the police are always expecting trouble.

• The whole world has crime in it, particularly in
• certain areas, but were focussing on the unsafe
• areas of Stoke-on-Trent.
• This is a map of crime ridden areas in Stoke-on-
• Trent. The areas In the city centres are most
  dangerous.

Safer Areas

• We have chosen to take a photograph of a house
  on the outskirts of Madeley because Madeley is
  only a village, so the population density will be
  far lower than the one in Hanley.
• Madeley is also a very rich area, so people
  wouldnt be short of money and wouldnt need to
  steel.
• But, often, the rich get into drug
• crimes because they canafford to.
• So, by evaluating this aspect, maybe
• it would have been better to chose
• a house, or area, not so rich
• because the one I did chose, (which
• is now on the market at around
• 500 000) could be associated with
• drug related crimes.
• The house is well presented,
• without any bars on the window, or
• well protected so we cant believe
• that the crime rate can be high.
• This obviously isnt always the case.
• looks can be decieving.

Conclusion

• Crimes are all offences which occur for a reason.
  Their level of seriousness depends a lot on which
  area it happens in. The location could be one of
  five City centre, council estate, private land,
  rural, roads. The most crimes in Stoke-on-Trent
  occur on the roads, but the most serious tend to
  occur in city centres, (apart from murders which
  happen can happen anywhere).
• There are many solutions to preventing crime,
  although there are also reasons for them not
  being followed through,
• e.g. council doesnt have enough money to flaunt
  about on creating youth groups which occupy
  children who may otherwise be board on the
  streets, causing trouble. But everyone can do
  their bit to stop them, starting with dont
  commit any yourself, and dont pressure others
  into committing them.
