What is one point on this line???

Points on Line
  • Is ( 2, 7) a solution to the equation 2x 3 y?
  • To Solve
  • Substitute 2 for x 2(2) 3 y
  • Substitute 7 for y 2(2) 3 7
  • Solve 4 3 7
  • Are both sides equal? 7 7
  • If nothen the point is NOT a solution!
  • If yesthen the point is a solution!
  • So (2, 7) is a solution!!

Lets try another one

  • Is ( -3, 10) a solution to the equation y 2x
    3?
  • Step 1 2(-3) 3 y
  • Step 2 2(-3) 3 10
  • Step 3 -6 3 -3
  • Step 4 -3 ? 10

Therefore (-3, 10) is not a solution!

  • Click on the Y button
  • Enter the equation 2x 3 into Y1
  • Click the 2nd (yellow) button then WINDOW
  • Go to Indpnt and set it equal to ASK

  • To graph an equation by hand
  • Step 1 Find the y-intercept
  • By hand or TI-83 Plus
  • Step 2 Use the slope to find at least two more
    points
  • Step 3 Connect the points.
  • Step 4 Add arrows to show infinite direction.
