Dr. Mari Madsen is a reputed Colon and Rectal
Surgeon who has been treating patients with
pelvic floor dysfunction and fecal incontinence
since 2005. She has been practicing surgery since
graduating medical school in 1999, now over 14
years. She has served as a colon and rectal
surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since 2005
and was the Clinical Chief of the Division of
Colon and Rectal Surgery from 2010-2012. She is a
minimally invasive specialist and proficient in
laparoscopy. She promotes the use of robot for
minimally invasive surgery and uses the TAMIS
platform for removing rectal lesions and thus,
eliminating the need for an abdominal surgery.
She is experienced in performing abdominal
surgery on the intestines (small and large) and
minor outpatient anorectal surgeries as well as
colonoscopies.

Dr. Mari Madsen was born in Brookline.
Massachusetts. Her father was a Professor at MIT
in Civil Engineering and her mother was a
Principal in the Boston Public School. She was
brought up in a highly academic environment. She
enrolled in Massachusetts Institute of Technology
and received her bachelors degree in Biological
Sciences. In 1999, she received her medical
degree from Tufts University School of Medicine.
The school was established in 1893 and is one of
the best medical research institutions for
clinical medicine in the world. Dr. Madsen
completed her general surgery residency at Emory
University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Following this, she completed a colorectal
surgery fellowship from Cleveland Clinic Florida.
She has Surgical Board Certifications from
American Board of Surgery and American Board of
Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Dr. Mari Madsen has a vast experience with
Laparoscopy. She has co-authored various
publications on the subject. She has also
presented her research at both national and
international level. She is licensed by the
Medical Board of California and is associated
with many surgical and medical societies
including Society of American Gastrointestinal
and Endoscopic Surgeons, American College of
Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal
Surgeons, and Southern California Colon and
Rectal Surgical Society. She is a fellow of the
American College of Surgeons. In her free time,
she likes to do hiking, cycling, traveling, and
Yoga. She regularly participates in the LA County
Medical Association and supports Little Sisters
Fund, a non-profit organization.
