5GS1 System
The GS1 System is a set of global standards,
which enable the unique identification of all
trade items, processes, services, shipments,
assets, companies and locations at any point in
the supply chain.
- The system can be used by all industries to
facilitate trade by combining unique
identification numbers with data carriers (bar
codes) and electronic commerce processes.

10GS1 Bar-Codes
A series of scannable numbers and codes that use
the globally recognised GS1 Identification Keys
to identify and item - product, case, pallet - or
location, enabling rapid and accurate electronic
reading at any point in the supply chain process

- Global standards for electronic business
messaging that allow rapid, efficient and
accurate automatic electronic transmission of
agreed business data between trading partners.
Based on two components GS1 EANCOM and GS1 XML

- The Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN)
is an automated, standards-based, global
environment that enables secure and continuous
data synchronisation , allowing all partners to
have consistent item data in their systems at the
same time.

- A new global standards system that combines
RFID (radio frequency identification) technology,
existing communications network infrastructure
and the Electronic Product Code (a number for
uniquely identifying an item) to enable immediate
and automatic identification and tracking of an
item through the whole supply chain globally,
resulting in improved efficiency and visibility
of the supply chain.

- GS1 Romania is the only Romanian organization
abilitated nationally and internationally for
promoting the GS1 standards for - the identification of products, services,
logistic units and locations - the electronic data changes EDI-EANCOM
(Electronic Data Interchange)

- It participates at GS1 activities and
workshops and it coordinates its own activities
with GS1 rules It organizes training courses
and exhibitions for potential GS1 System users
It prepares reports and analysis regarding the
use of GS1 bar code technology for automatic data
collecting in the industrial and commercial
distribution field It works on studies
regarding the extension of bar encoding and the
development of new technologies for the economic
agents in production, services or commerce field
in order to use the bar code for administration
It supplies marketing services for the Romanian
economic agents by the international databases
It implements GS1 issues as an active presence
in press and other communication media It
founds its own publications to inform and to
present results, concerns and opinions about GS1
on internal and international field.
