  • When di the great day arrive for the outpouring
    of the Holy spirit?
  • What did some accuse the apostles of when they
    spoke with vartious languages.?
  • Why were they so amazed?
  • What prophecy did Peter say was being fulfilled.
  • How does one call on the name of the Lord? For
    what purpose?
  • What did Peter tell the Pentecostians to do to
    be saved?
  • What does the word for mean in Acts 238? How
    do we know for certain?
  • What did the new converts devote themselves
    to?
  • Who is said to have perfomred many signs and
    wonders?
  • To what were the saved added? By Whom?

2
  • ACTS 247. Praising God, and having favour with
all the people. And the Lord added to the church
daily such as should be saved.
  • WHY THE WORD CHURCH?

3
  • 1. The word church is from ekklesia, meaning
called out of sin into life of obedience.
  • A. One is called by the gospel 2 Thess. 214
  • C. And separated unto the gospel (Rm. 11)
  • I Cor. 611. And such were some of you but ye
are washed, but ye are sanctified.
  • Ep. 525. Husbands, love your wives, even as
Christ also loved the church, and gave himself
for itEph. 5 26. That he might sanctify and
cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
  • THE WORD CHURCH INCLUDES ALL THIS

4
THE CALLED OUT AND THE SAVED COMPOSE THE SAME
PEOPLE
  • CALLED OUT from the dead. I Pet. 318 quickened
    by the spirit
  • CALLED OUT from Satans family Rom. 615 ye
have received the Spirit of adoption, cry, Abba,
    Father.
  • CALLED OUT of world into Christ 2 Cor. 517.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new
    creature
  • CALLED OUT BY a new birth The Spirit is given at
    birth
  • THUS THE CALLED OUT (SAVED) COMPOSE THE LORDS
CHURCHunless someone would dare say one saved
who has never been called out of sin.

5
ALSO, The Church is the same group of people
as the family of God.
  • The church is the family of God (I Tim. 315
the house of God, which is the church of the
    living God
  • All Gods children are in His family.
  • His heirs are in His family (Rom. 8 17. And if
children, then heirs heirs of God,
  • To be an heir is to be in Gods family, to be in
the family is to be in Gods called out, the
    church, those sanctified in Christ.

6
The Responsibility of the Saved
  • 242. And they continued stedfastly in the 1)
apostles' doctrine and 2) fellowship, and in 2)
breaking of bread, and in 3) prayers.
  • Gal. 18. But though we, or an angel from
heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than
that which we have preached unto you, let him be
    accursed.
  • 43. And fear came upon every soul and many
wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

7
Ch. 3 Apostolic teaching is confirmed by A
Genuine MiracleHow to spot a genuine miracle.
  • 1. Now Peter and John went up together into the
temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth
    hour.
  • 2. And a certain man lame from his mother's
womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the
gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to
ask alms of them that entered into the temple
    (Over 40 years old 422)
  • 3. Who seeing Peter and John about to go into
    the temple asked an alms.
  • 4. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with
    John, said, Look on us.

8
  • 5. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to
    receive something of them.
  • 6. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I
none but such as I have give I thee In the name
of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
  • 7. And he took him by the right hand, and
lifted him up and immediately his feet and ancle
    bones received strength.

9
  • 8. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and
entered with them into the temple, walking, and
    leaping, and praising God.
  • 9. And all the people saw him walking and
    praising God
  • 10. And they knew that it was he which sat for
alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple and
they were filled with wonder and amazement at
that which had happened unto him.
  • 11. And as the lame man which was healed held
Peter and John, all the people ran together unto
them in the porch that is called Solomon's,
    greatly wondering.

10
Miracles/signs were used in association with the
message.
  • John 6. Jesus fed 5,ooo with the miracles of
bread, then taught a lesson on the bread of life.
  • John 11 Jesus raised Lazarus and then preached a
sermon on Himself being the Resurrection from the
    dead.
  • HERE, Peter and John heal the crippled man and
then preach a sermon on the power of Jesus Christ
still present to heal the soul.

11
Peters Second Sermon 312-26 included the death,
burial and resurrection of Jesus
  • 313. The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of
Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his
Son Jesus whom ye delivered up, and denied him
in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined
    to let him go.
  • 14. But ye denied the Holy One and the Just,
and desired a murderer to be granted unto you
  • 15. And killed the Prince of life, (DEATH) whom
God hath raised from the dead (RESURRECTION)
whereof we are witnesses. (I Cor. 154

12
Hear Paul Define The Gospel
  • I Cor. 151. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto
you the gospel which I preached unto you, which
also ye have received, and wherein ye stand
  • 2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in
memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have
    believed in vain.
  • 3. For I delivered unto you first of all that
which I also received, how that Christ died for
our sins according to the scriptures
  • 4. And that he was buried, and that he rose
again the third day according to the scriptures
  • When learned before Power could not be
transferred by anyone except the apostles.

13
PAUL EXPLAINS HOW THE GOSPEL IS TO BE OBEYED
  • ROM. 6 17. But God be thanked, that ye were the
servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine which was delivered
you. 18. Being then made free from sin, ye
    became the servants of righteousness.
  • 6 4. Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of
    life.

14
WHAT Happens When the Gospel is Not Obeyed
  • 2 Thess 17-10. And to you who are troubled
rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be
revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
  • 8. In flaming fire taking vengeance on them
that know not God, and that obey not the gospel
    of our Lord Jesus Christ
  • 9. Who shall be punished with everlasting
destruction from the presence of the Lord, and
from the glory of his power
  • 10. When he shall come to be glorified in his
saints, and to be admired in all them that
believe (because our testimony among you was
    believed) in that day.

15
Peters 2nd Sermon contd
  • 17. And now, brethren, I wot that through
ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
  • 18. But those things, which God before had
shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that
Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
  • 19. Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that
your sins may be blotted out, when the times of
refreshing shall come from the presence of the
    Lord.

16

17
First Opposition ACTS 41FF
  • 1. And as they spake unto the people, the
priests, and the captain of the temple, and the
    Sadducees, came upon them,
  • 2. Being grieved that they taught the people,
and preached through Jesus the resurrection from
    the dead.
  • 3. And they laid hands on them, and put them in
hold unto the next day for it was now eventide.
  • 4. Howbeit many of them which heard the word
believed and the number of the men was about
    five thousand.

18
The Inquisition
  • 5. And it came to pass on the morrow, that their
    rulers, and elders, and scribes,
  • 6. And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and
John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the
kindred of the high priest, were gathered
    together at Jerusalem.
  • 7. And when they had set them in the midst,
they asked, By what power, or by what name, have
    ye done this?

19
Peters Reply to the Sanhedrin
  • 4 8. Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost,
said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and
    elders of Israel,
  • 9. If we this day be examined of the good deed
done to the impotent man, by what means he is
    made whole
  • 10. Be it known unto you all, and to all the
people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God
raised from the dead, even by him doth this man
stand here before you whole. 11. This is the
stone which was set at nought of you builders,
which is become the head of the corner. (Ps.
    11822)
  • 12. Neither is there salvation in any other
for there is none other name under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved.

20
13. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and
John, and perceived that they were unlearned and
ignorant men, they marvelled and they took
knowledge of them, that they had been with
Jesus. 14. And beholding the man which was
healed standing with them, (Rem. the 9 lepers?)
they could say nothing against it. 15. But when
they had commanded them to go aside out of the
council, they conferred among themselves, 16.
Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that
indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them
is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem
and we cannot deny it. 17. But that it spread
no further among the people, let us straitly
threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no
man in this name. 18. And they called them, and
commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in
the name of Jesus.
21
19. But Peter and John answered and said unto
them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to
hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20. For we cannot but speak the things which we
have seen and heard. (What caused the contrast
since the arrest?) 21. So when they had further
threatened them, they let them go, finding
nothing how they might punish them, because of
the people for all men glorified God for that
which was done. 22. For the man was above forty
years old, (40 years the town invalid) on whom
this miracle of healing was shewed. 23. And
being let go, they went to their own company, and
reported all that the chief priests and elders
had said unto them.
22
INTRODUCING JOSEPH A PRIEST FROM CYPRUSCALLED
BARNABAS,.. LIBERAL IN GIVING , FUTURE MISSIONARY
  • 434. Neither was there any among them that
lacked for as many as were possessors of lands
or houses sold them, and brought the prices of
    the things that were sold,
  • 35. And laid them down at the apostles' feet
and distribution was made unto every man
    according as he had need.
  • 36. And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed
Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, the son
of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of
    Cyprus,
  • 37. Having land, sold it, and brought the
money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

23
Chapter 5 THE FIRST SIN WHAT WAS THE SIN OF
ANANIAS?
  • 1. But a certain man named Ananias, with
Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
  • 2. And kept back part of the price, his wife
also being privy to it, and brought a certain
part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
  • 3. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan
filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and
to keep back part of the price of the land?
  • 4. Whiles it remained, was it not thine own?
and after it was sold, was it not in thine own
power? why hast thou conceived this thing in
thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but
    unto God.
  • 5. And Ananias hearing these words fell down,
and gave up the ghost and great fear came on all
    them that heard these things.
  • 6. And the young men arose, wound him up, and
carried him out, and buried him.

24
WHAT WAS THE SIN OF SAPPHIRA? What Might Have
Been?
  • ACTS 57. And it was about the space of three
hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was
    done, came in.
  • 8. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether
ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea,
    for so much.
  • 9. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye
have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the
Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried
thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee
    out.
  • 10. Then fell she down straightway at his feet,
and yielded up the ghost and the young men came
in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth,
    buried her by her husband.

25
FIRST PERSECUTION Acts 517-
  • 16. There came also a multitude out of the
cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick
folks, and them which were vexed with unclean
spirits and they were healed every one.
  • 17. Then the high priest rose up, and all they
that were with him, (which is the sect of the
Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
  • 18. And laid their hands on the apostles, and
put them in the common prison.
  • 19. But the angel of the Lord by night opened
the prison doors, and brought them forth, and
    said,
  • 20. Go, stand and speak in the temple to the
people all the words of this life.

26
GOD IS OVER THE SANHEDRIN
  • 27. And when they had brought them, they set
them before the council and the high priest
    asked them,
  • 28. Saying, Did not we straitly command you
that ye should not teach in this name? and,
behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your
doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood
    upon us.
  • 29. Then Peter and the other apostles answered
and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

27
Not all Pharisees were bad, Neither all court
officials
  • 33. When they heard that, they were cut to the
heart, and took counsel to slay them.
  • 34. Then stood there up one in the council, a
Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law,
had in reputation among all the people, and
commanded to put the apostles forth a little
    space
  • 35. And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take
heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as
    touching these men.
  • 38. And now I say unto you, Refrain from these
men, and let them alone for if this counsel or
this work be of men, it will come to nought
  • 39. But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow
it lest haply ye be found even to fight against
    God.

28
CHAPTER SIX THE FIRST ORGANIZATION
  • 1. And in those days, when the number of the
disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring
of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because
their widows were neglected in the daily
    ministration.
  • 2. Then the twelve called the multitude of the
disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason
that we should leave the word of God, and serve
    tables.
  • 3. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you
seven men of honest report, full of the Holy
Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this
    business.
  • 4. But we will give ourselves continually to
prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
  • 6. Whom they set before the apostles and when
they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

29
Introducing Stephen who will become the first
martyr
  • 7. And the word of God increased and the
number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem
greatly and a great company of the priests were
    obedient to the faith.
  • 8. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did
great wonders and miracles among the people.

30
  • 10. And they were not able to resist the wisdom
and the spirit by which he spake.
  • 11. Then they suborned men, which said, We have
heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses,
    and against God.
  • 12. And they stirred up the people, and the
elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and
caught him, and brought him to the council,
  • 13. And set up false witnesses, which said,
This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words
against this holy place, and the law
  • 14. For we have heard him say, that this Jesus
of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall
change the customs which Moses delivered us.
  • 15. And all that sat in the council, looking
stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been
    the face of an angel.
