    famous explorers and watching/listening to video
    clips about Central America and different time
    periods.

Objectives
  • Students will be able work cooperatively to
    create a guidebook to inform others about
    different places in Central America.
  • Students will use verb tenses correctly including
    present, imperatives, and can could.
  • Use the computer effectively to research a place
    of interest and design the guidebook.

Pre-Computer Activities
  • Discuss what weve learned about Central
    America.
  • Brainstorm places that students might be
    interested in visiting based on what we learned.
  • State the objectives for the lesson.

  • Brainstorm ways to find out travel information
    about a particular place.
  • Show and discuss different guidebooks that are on
    the market today.

Practice (Day 2)
  • Students have Day 2 to continue their research,
    gather information, and create their travel
    guide.
  • By the end of Day 2 they must have a rough draft
    of their text for the project.
  • E-mail another group their text for proofreading
    for homework.

Practice (Day 3)
  • Groups will get together and discuss the
    corrections they made during the peer revising
    that was completed for homework.
  • Make revisions and complete final details of the
    project.
  • E-mail their final project to the teacher.

Follow-Up
  • The teacher will compile the students work
    together into a Central America Travel Guide.
  • She will e-mail the students the entire guide to
    use for their homework assignment
  • Students will receive a budget of 300 for a
    four-day stay in any of the countries. Their
    flight is already paid. They need to figure out
    where they will stay, where they will eat, and
    what will they do.

Potential Problems
  • Students may struggle with narrowing down their
    place choices since there are so many options for
    each country.
  • They might have trouble managing the allotted
    time for the project.
  • If there is a problem with the Internet
    connection we can go to the library and research
    the different countries.
