combination of 3 different styles of music

7- The most important thing in soul music is the
vocalist!
8And our composer of the quarter is
9Aretha Franklin!
10Aretha Louise Franklin was born on May 25th, 1942
11In Memphis, Tennessee
12But after she was born her family moved to
Detroit, Michigan.
13Her father was a Baptist minister.
14Her mother was a gospel singer. She died when
Aretha was young.
15Aretha sang and learned about music in the gospel
choir at her fathers church.
16She taught herself how to play the piano.
17Aretha was only 12 years old when she was made
the featured soloist in her churchs gospel
choir.
18Two years later she started recording her own
albums!
19Her voice and music became so popular in the
1960s that people began calling her The Queen
of Soul
20In the 1960s, Aretha became one of the most
popular recording artists. America was in the
midst of the Civil Rights movement, and many
African Americans took pride in Arethas
accomplishments. She was a role model and
positive influence on many peoples lives.
